The first egg ship I saw was Yamato and I wasn't all that excited, after all, everyone has a Yamato (or tigerI, Sherman, P-51, FW-190) but then I saw a Hiei with p/e I sprang into action and ordered one. While doing that I saw the ad for Akagi..... oh my, pre-ordered her at the same time.

When Akagi arrived in the mail I couldn't help myself, box opened and glue applied!
Just a fun build to go help smooth out the Derfflinger build.

Here is what you get in the box....

3 each, Zero, Val, and Kate.

How's the fit? My Kongo wasn't the flashiest snap together kit. The hull/bottom/deck fit was decent but everything else is not. In fact I had to do a lot of trimming and shaping just to get things stuck down proper and also glues etc.

Potchip, Akagi is the same, the upper to lower hull fit well, but the rest needs help. I was surprised by the amount of flash on the parts. Much sanding and some putty are needed.
Overall detail is good though.

Waiting for the DX version with photo etch, I would like to build it again with p/e, drill out portholes and add some lights for the fun of it.

Ha! That's pretty cute.

I like the egg models honestly, they have an Eglin F-15 I've wanted to build for a while...

Dan,

Great looking build so far! It's interesting that even though they are cartoonish, they seemed to capture a lot of detail and almost strive for a perceived accuracy.

Dan,

As ridiculous as they may be, they may serve a good purpose. My 5 year old saw this WIP and now she wants me get one so she can help me build it. If it keeps our hobby alive into the next generation, bring on the ridiculous!

Matt

I think Coke bottle glasses to view the research is what is called for.

I do get the cuteness factor; but my 7 year old boy doesn't.

"Cuteness" is one of those things that you don't quite appreciate whilst part of the age group to which it is usually directed. As one grows older, however, there is an increasing sense of appreciation for the simple childhoods we no longer have. It gets to the point where adults become much more enamoured of such items than youths who are busy trying to emulate adults and what they think are adult preferences.

Getting close to being done, decals going on. It's nice to see Fujimi even put the drains around the flight deck!

Guns added, some more painting and weathering, rigging and flags, an aircraft or two and she will be ready for battle at the June "Model Expo" here in San Diego.

Am slightly disappointed that the air group themselves are not egg planes. Other than that, I really this modelling niche.
