Hi!

Lately I've started works on my favourite Shiratsuyu-class DD, the Samidare. I will use Fujimi kit together with Tom's Modelwork PE and most likely other PE parts from other manufacturers that will come in handy. Samidare will be depicted as seen in 1942.

Good to see. This is the first W-I-P of this kit that I can recall.

Thanks for feedback :wave_1:

Step-by-step...
PE anchor chains done. I was afraid as hell of making it, but all in all it went far easier than expected! At the moment it seems quite flat, but I will work on that when painting. Plus, PE doors from Aber appeared on aft superstructure.

Are there any plans or detailed photos of the aft superstructure available? I don't have original paper instruction to the kit and I use pictures of it published at Hobby Search, but those are so small that I'm unsure about mast attachment points.

Best regards,
Filip

This is the best available view that I'm aware of. I'll look for a plan view.

Hi guys!

After a way-too-long break caused by university exams, here's Samidare's hull ready for inspection! I drybrushed it a bit using silver+black paint on deck and Kure Gray+white on sides. Heavier weathering and railings will follow later, when superstructures are added.
As for the superstructures, forecastle is finished and mid-section is under construction.

Very nice looking build so far! I have a Shiratsuyu in my stash so I am following this with much interest :thumbs_up_1:

Haven't updated the thread in a while, so here are pics with complete superstructures! All that's left to do now is to add the small stuff, cranes, boats, railings and self-made metal masts. Masts seem to be the most troublesome part of the build so far, but I'll keep on trying!

I must say that I'm already very satisfied with my little DD, especially when compared to older kits of mine

Looking good, Filip. I can't wait to see the next update. May I ask what you used to make the canvas coverings for the rails?

It's a special paper used to separate slices of cheese or ham inside its packaging. I've heard many recipes about using white printer paper covered in primers, CA glues etc., but this paper works great without all those tricks. Plus, you get something extra to eat

Lately I managed to build both masts using electric guitar strings, Samidare also received lifeboats and all other minor parts. Now I can say it's 99.9% complete, requires only a few painting corrections and matt finish. Phew.
Here's a sneak peek from photos I took today to look for areas still in need of improvements:

I think that rust and other stains on hull may be a bit overdone. What do you guys think?

Cheers,
Filip

Looks really good! :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: Those G, B, and high E guitar strings do come in very handy for masts, yards and such. :cool_2:

Glad you like it! Guitar strings and other scratch builds are what I like most in scale modelling- it feels great to make something out of nothing! :cool_2:

Samidare is ready, you can see final gallery here:
