I've been working on clearing off some shelf-of-doom projects recently, and while much of that has gone into a 1/32 F-4 and now a 1/32 F-8, at the other end of the scale is the Prince of Wales. This is the older Tamiya kit, with the White Ensign PE detail set.

One of the motivations is that my brother got me a book on building 1/700 scale ships, and I'd like to try out some of the techniques in that book. I've already tried gluing on the railings with diluted white glue (works quite well) and painting the deck (looks great), and next I'd like to try oil washes, oil dry brushing, and making a sea base...all for the first time.

Another motivation is that I've wanted to build Battleship Row for quite some time. I collected the kits ~20 years ago, and had always thought 'maybe when I retire', but I think I'd like to get going while I can still see things. So, the PoW is also a way to practice working in 1/700 scale and to develop some techniques before diving into that project.

Excellent (brush?) painting on that PoW. And please do not overdo the washing and dry brushing. Ships were relatively clean compare to for example armor or WW2 aircraft.

I agree with Pieter, PoW had a relatively short life, and not time to be dirty:) (some japanese ships in 1944-1945... maybe more )
