Added a couple details to the well deck overhead (which is the hangar deck floor in the kit). Also, here's the sides of the well deck.

I've been working on some decals (mainly for the hangar deck) this week. Some pictures I have of the Wasp show this logo on the port side hangar door. I know you won't be able to see it well, but I thought it would be fun to make a decal of it. An 11 blade is next to it for comparison.

Here I've installed the well deck in the hull. I've started on installing some lights as well. The only place you're going to be able to see into the well and vehicle decks from is the well deck opening in the stern, so some light is needed if you want to be able to see any details. I found these 1.8mm LED's that seem to work pretty well. In the well deck, I've mounted them in the upper walls. In the reference photos I have, the lights look like they are mounted on the side walls instead of shining down from the ceiling, so I'm trying to replicate this effect. Fortunately, there's plenty of space laterally to the well deck to hide the wires in.

I've finished the hangar deck structure and lighting. I ended up making some decals of of signs and markings for the walls. I made an overhead out of styrene sheet and I-beams. Through this go the LED's. Though small, they seem to provide enough light to see the details.

This is the first time I tried making decals myself. I picked up the testors make-your-own-decals kit from the hobby shop, and then got the clear sheets to use (instead of the white). I don't know if there's something better out there, but it worked pretty well. I would be happy to send anybody interested the files for the decals if you would like. I'm new to the board, but I think the easiest way would be to email me. |

I got some extra vehicles to populate the vehicle and well decks. I found some LAV-25's and AAV-7's from Iron Shipwright. Due to the limitations of casting in resin, they're not as detailed as the injection molded versions that come with the kit. But viewed from the well deck's gate, I think they should do the trick. By working on lighting and vehicles etc, I'm kind of beating around the bush and trying to avoid doing more serious work on the ship itself until a PE set comes out. Anybody know when that will be, or any guesses on how much of the ship I can safely build without the PE set in hand?

I got JAG's 1:350 deck vehicle set. It's very impressive. The level of detail is excellent. I started on the forklifts.

Man-o-man this is an inspiring project. Thank you for giving me so many ideas for interior layouts and methods for constuction. Your work is spot on! I cannot wait to see more! Keep up the good work, my man! |

This is just crazy - what's next CCTV ? This is outstanding work, the deck vehicles are out of this world errr yeah well impressed by this as if you couldn't tell ![]() ![]() Its hard to describe what I'm trying to say, I believe this makes a wonderful change from simply building a model, cranking it up a gear you could say, adding lights gives it a ''wow'' factor, and although it might seeem an odd idea, micro cameras are getting smaller, even on ebay you can buy a pen that's actually a movie camera, so perhaps CCTV linked wireless via a monitor isn't such a crazy idea ![]() Attachment: This spy stuff comes with a USB for the grand price of 15 quid, can't imagine paying any less then a few thousand pound ten years ago, its a bit worrying as you can buy just about anything on ebay.
