A small family on vacation,


on the beautiful lake and is now with the baby for a walk along the sea. As they passed a small cliff


near the port control to the nearby harbor and look down the coast to the sea,



they hear the gentle chug of a diesel engine.
The eyes go and see a Dutch minesweeper of Dokkum class
as he leaves the port on his last journey.


Quickly shot a few pictures and waved over to the ship before the minesweeper disappeared in the depths of the lake.



It could have happened in 1997 when the last class minesweepers Dokkum, made his final journey home.

Original:

From the wooden minesweepers of Dokkum Class 1955-1957 A total of 32 boats were built.
The last boats were completed in 1997 out of service. In the 70s, some were converted into mine hunters.
Three boats were rebuilt in submersible vehicles.
Crew: 38 men
Displacement: 417 tons
Maximum length: 46.42 m
Overall width: 8.76 m
Draft: 2.28 m
Propulsion: Diesel engines
Speed: max. 14 knots
Armament: 2x 40mm machine gun

Model:

The model was produced by the company in the late 90 Artitec models made from resin and was an attempt to enter it in the segment of the 700 ships.
Why can not further pursue this direction can be guessed at, since the kit is a very nice reproduction of the original. The other two models of the kit are not bad as far as I can tell.
The model was actually built quite well and with the attached PE parts, it looks quite good. Sorry, no railing is. This was shown with parts from Lion Roar. The people are of Edward.

Was only as an idea that came to me over the holidays, when I looked so my Marine pictures
and was looking for a suitable location for another project.

A very nice diorama of a rare kit! I'll assume she's somewhere in Germany/Denmark/Norway on a Nato SNMCMG deployment, because our little flat country doesn't have cliffs like that! . Never mind, the dio is AMAZING.

Artitec has indeed discontinued (sadly) their 1:700 line, concentrating on 1:87 (HO) scale. BTW, if you haven't build the other ships in the set yet, I'm willing to pay *good* money for the Jan van Amstel-class minesweeper!

Where exactly is all I can say. I just wanted to try that with the cliffs and the associated water design.
It is a pity, it builds Artitec no longer in the 700 models.
Unfortunately I can not sell you the Jan van Amstel, as I for a large project, as will build "Jan van Gelder. I'd like to have more of the models.
Maybe you can help me but once, when this color scheme was used? And if there any original pictures in Holland.

Hi Olaf,

that model portrays Van Gelder in English service, somewhere after 1943. She has the RN sign and camouflage. She was already attached to English units before that.
You might find more images at http://www.maritiemdigitaal.nl (they have a German version!) or ask around at http://www.dutchfleet.net, but you'll have to register to that site. People are generally helpful.

Actually I have not committed to the Dutch Navy. I rather like to build models from the period 1982 - 1990, when I myself have served in the Navy.
