Outstanding! :thumbs_up_1: Keep it coming. I can't wait to see more. I've always had a soft spot for LB and what she could have (should have) been.

Bob

Thx Bob!
I have 4 projects on the hop at present and things can get misplaced around here! Case in point was going to make up the ASROC launcher yesterday with this large rectangular bit of 2mm styrene that had 2 smaller bits cut off.....nearly cut it up until I noticed faintly written on it "HANGER FLOOR" :heh:
So I ended up making up some catwalks yesterday, a central weapons elevator and RAST tracks tonight. Then remembering something FOOMAN posted on RCGroups about doin tiedown points I did 30 odd of them 2 tonight !! Now I need 2 get some plastic railings and get it all finished so I can paint it!! :cool_1:

Cheers Bruce

Cliffy B I have lots of chopper's !! The AH-64 is actually being used for 'bits' as it is extensively heat damaged (U can't tell in the pic but up close its very noticeable). I have 3 -60 series Heli's the B with folded rotor's, a B mod'd with Hellfires (sort of R spec) and my newest is a HH-60H with the Minigun and Penguin missile. As well as A CH-53E Super Stallion (+ another building) and an MH-53J PavelowIII (+2 more unstarted in box's)
The SH-60B will be in USS Long Beach's hanger, the SH-60R on her Flightdeck and the HH-60H is for USS California's flight deck.

Cheers Bruce :cool_1:

Hvy,
I see you are going to some pretty extensive lengths to make everything as real as possible. Most people paint up Mk46 torpedos like they are already in the water and never think about how they actually attach to a helicopte or a plane. I would suggest you look at this page:
http://www.tpub.com/aviord321/54.htm and look up the Mk78 Mod0/1 bands with Air Accessories. Torpedoes don't just magically hang off a helo or fixed wing aircraft. They have to be banded with kits, a parachute put on the back, a bunch of long wires put on them, caps, and some other stuff before you can even attach it to a helo much less drop it.

So, I think it would add some more realism to your model if you were to study this it and include it on your torpedoes.

Keep up the great work! We really like your progress, and we look forward to more posts!

Thx Mate,
The Hanger's not going to be super detailed just enough to look good from 2 foot or so looking in the doors. It was mostly made with bits out the off cuts box and some styrene 1.6mm tube.
I have been reworking the fwd superstructure sections yesterday and today will post some pic's of the alterations later when the glue has dried. Finally made a start on fwd Davits have completed fwd most pair, working on the Davits for the 40' motor boats next

Cheers Bruce

Here R some pix from recent TF72 club sail day. Fwd davits R 80% done and have rebuilt upper bridge around the SPG-55 targeting radar base's for more accurate look. About to start fitting w/t doors and some deck lighting and deck details.
Also all main Radar's now have drive!! both Radar's on fwd mast SPS-48 and upper SPS-67 have separate geared motors and the aft SPS-49 just got a new drive motor replacing the servo that I had previously used in there.

Cheers Bruce

Thx Seasick,
Been busy doin mast details and have been detailing around the upper bridge ( including re-glazing upper bridge windows) going 2 be painting LB with Tamiya Haze Gray spray can(s...) the grey primer just isn't durable on a RC model (and not quite dark enuff).
Should have some decent pics of her after the weekends scale model expo our branch of TF72 is doing a static display.

Cheers Bruce

Thx Mate! I never intended 2 do walkways originally but I saw Boatmans 1/144 USS Nimitz(on WMU) and the walkways (and lights setup) he had done in her stern area and I it gave me the idea for the walkways. The port side where the SH-60 is stowed is set up as a maintenance bay , with stbd side for the primary helo ( if you'd call it that).

Cheers Bruce

Measured the overall height of the fwd mast recently and after making an adjustment for top radar clearance USS Long Beach is (from keel 2 TACAN frisbee) 99cm tall ( or 38.97 inches).
I have been adding resin cast doors, loudspeakers, fire hoses, deck hatches, and some vents. Eventually will have working deck lighting ( I need 2 solder about 40 odd 1.8mm LED's 2 their resistors 1st!!, the wire the buggas up..) and Nav lights ( port N stbd and 2 white mast lights).

Cheers Bruce :cool_1:

Recently drove over to New South Wales for the TF72 annual regatta, USS Long Beach had received a weapons fitout of her Fwd mk-10 launchers and associated SPG-55 targeting Radar's thanks to some timely shipping by Alan Pew of APS models. I picked up the rest of her fittings from Alan at the regatta and got 2 sail with his model of INS Mumbai. I have been constructing some of the remaining weapons and had a bit of a test fit this afternoon.
Here R some pic's of the new weapons fit and a couple of LB at the Regatta.

Cheers Bruce :cool_1: :cool_1:

I do like your upgrade choices! Looking sweet! Although, that's an awfully large bird in the background! (Pelican?) Aren't you afraid it may pick a fight with your ship??? :destroyer:

Fan-tastic. Your model is turning out to be quite a master-piece. May I suggestion something? With the installation of VLS aboard, why don't you replace the 0-2 level Mk10 launcher and the main deck's Mk10 magazine with 2 64-cell VLS arrangements? The Mk10's rate of fire is super slow and requires dudes to manually fin each missile. Yikes.

However, if you replace them with VLS, oh boy. Then, on the main deck, you can replace the Mk10 launcher with a Mk71 gun.

Also, since you have the hanger (nice job by the way) replacing aft Mk10 magazine, why keep the Phalanx how they were arranged? Why have both Phalanx and Goalkeeper? If you want to keep that stair-stepped arrangement, may I suggest you replacing Phalanx with RAM instead?

Keep up the good work. By the way, where can I order some of these parts you have? I would love to have a 1/72 scale Phalanx or Goalkeeper? Do you have a link you can send me? Thanks, man!

FWIW, Good suggestions Dave, but I like the Mk10 launchers and SPG 55 directors! I think they look cool! Bring back the LEAHY's!! Don't change it Bruce!!!  :wave_1:

Something I found out during discussions about RN ships, the Goalkeeper is used when there is below deck space. The Phalanx is used when there isn't because it can just be plunked down almost anywhere as a self contained unit.

Cheers!
Darren
