Just got Trumpeters 1/350 scale Russian Navy Udaloy Severomrsk #04517 for a birthday gift from the wife. The question I have is how accurate is the paint reference supplied with this kit, ie orange yellowfor parts of the deck? From all the pics that I have seen the deck is primarily red brown. Also, what is a good substitute for Barley Gary{Gunze Sangyo paint #334}? Also the decals have 3 different hull #'s 659,480, and 548. Could someone tell me what hull numbers go with a particular name. Thanks for any help and your time in this matter. :bash_2:

The paint colours are pretty subjective - the Russians weren't/aren't very consistent. In theory, each "Fleet" (e.g. Baltic Fleet, Northern Fleet, Pacific Fleet) had their own shade, and White Ensign Models' Colorcoat paint line reflects this. In practice, however, there were differences even within a fleet, as this pic of the Pacific Fleet (of which Severomorsk was a member) shows: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Sovie ... t_1990.jpg

As for hull numbers, the Russians also liked to change them around. The post by GtDeath13 on July 4 2012 on this page should help: viewtopic.php?f=49&t=34696&start=300

I always suggest to anyone who is building a Russian / Soviet ship is first to decide which particular ship he wants to build, in which timeframe and then decide the colours. You can paint a ship from dark sea grey up to barley grey and be correct. This also applies to the deck colour... :cool_2: :cool_2:

Second to that, I have just completed the kit. Here is the final product: viewtopic.php?f=60&t=106942

The kit you have provides a narrow helicopter deck, so you can only build three ships of the class, the first three in fact, Udaloy, Vice-Admiral Kulakov και Marshal Vasilyevsky. The decals provided with the kit are allowing you only one option, Udaloy. The corresponding hull numbers are for Udaloy: 444(1980), 480(1981), 695(1983),656(1985), 612(1990), 637(1993).

If you decide to build the ship before 1990 then you have to omit the kinzhal launchers (circular thins fitted to the forecastle and the part just fore of the hangar, plus leave out the crossword radars, which are also left over on the kit's instructions.

Hope I have helped... :wave_1: :wave_1:
