Hello all,

What is the color for early war USN carrier deck vehicles and equipment (bomb and torpedo carts, ladders, …), in may 1942?
Olive drab, yellow, something else?

Many thanks,

Marijn

I've always thought they were a light gray, but which shade? I don't know.

Also interested to know...

I recall reading Ocean Grey from some of Tracy White's documents and discussions in the CVL or Essex threads.

Meanwhile, I found some info on this site, with has one interesting pic. It points to navy grey no. 123
http://olive-drab.com/od_mvg_navy_paint.php

I know wheelchocks were yellow, but what color were step ladders, bomb carts/wheelbarrows and wheeled aircraft jacks?

Many thanks,

Marijn

I've never seen a jack on the flight deck, so it's possible they weren't camouflaged.

So what's a good match for medium gray No. 123?

From the examples I've seen, it's close to, but slightly different from, modern USN Haze Gray.

That was my feeling, but with my color blindness, I've learned not to assume.

Probably a more "grayer" looking haze gray.

I'm wondering if USN aircraft light gull gray might work.
