At least 2 Independence class CVLs, USS Belleau Wood and USS Monterrey, were coated in the MS 33, 3d paint scheme.

One of the 3 colours listed is "Pale grey". What would be the closest Tamiya paint spray equivalent?

Tamiya Medium Grey? Or Tamiya Light Ghost Grey?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can give further clarification.

There is a great article on wiki on US camouflage with color swatches: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War ... tates_Navy
I got a bunch of sprays trying to get it right :)
AS7 Neutral Gray corresponds to Haze Gray, and Medium Gray looks even darker than that.

Ghost Grays have a noticeable blue tint, which I don't see in the Pale Gray swatch.

I think you got 2 options:
AS 2 light gray - it's not as green as it looks from the swatch.
Just use Tamiya fine detail primer which comes in light gray - I actually think that's the only untinted matte light gray spray.

Unfortunately, color swatches of Tamiya sprays you can find online only match the actual color more or less only in 50% of cases.

P. S.
You should rename the thread to '50 shades of USN gray', lol

Thanks for the reply and advice. I will give AS2 Light gray a try.

Btw, the wiki link source you posted was already embedded in the words "MS 33 3d" in my post above.
