Hello there! :wave_1:

During the Spanish-American war, torpedo boats such as the USS Winslow and the ram USS Kathadin were painted, I believe, in a dark green color, somewhat like bottle green.

Is there a Testor's Model Master color that approximates this color?

I have seen some contemporary 1898 colorized photos of the USS Winslow on some websites and, if I can find nothing better, then I will go with that - the color appears in these images to be a very dark olive green.

Thank you for any help that you can give me in this search.

Best regards,

Alain

The Federal Standard palette did come into existence until the 1950s, so there is no FS number for it. I have no further info.

I doubt you would find anything for certain.

Look at b/w photos if you have any and try to judge level of darkness off that.

i suspect you are looking for a dark olive drab. You might find something suitable in the paints intended for tanks?

cheers,

rob

It depends on how long you can wait... there was some research being done on the topic but it's a couple of years out from publication.
