I'm in. Saratoga in 1936, during the changeover from F4B's to F3F's. Trumpeter 1/700, Starfighter decals uses, GMM ship and airgroup parts are ready to go. Hull and PE have been looking at me from the stack for a long time and now that F4B's are available from Hasegawa I have decided to start the build in january. She'll be landing on aircraft, if I can find out what the landing procedures were like in 1936. Pictures give an idea of what has been finished just now. I've also been slowly painting the airgroup last year, not something to be done in a single weekend.

Here is the Kitty Hawk, 1998, waiting for CVW-5 to embark. I have about half of the airwing done so it should not be too long. I may actually be catching up!

Mark - super build! Did you do anything to the bridge windows? They just seem to blend in with the island, at least in the pictures. I use a .005 art pen to color in the windows, and it works great! This is the island on my OOB Nimitz build:

Your ship would look even more awesome with the extra detail. I'm looking forward to your airwing joining the fray! :heh:

I like that affect. I might go back and fill in that detail.

I just washed them because the detail is not great and trying to freehand it seems to make a mess of it.

Very nice detail indeed!

I believe it was a '75 airwing - I used Mark's decals for the airwing. Thanks. And Mark - I highly recommend the marker method for windows - as long as they are molded decently, you can trace the outline and fill them in.

Does this model come with those UHF antennas or were they scratch built? I'd like to add those to my Oriskany model as she had several on the island structure.

Here's a link about those antenna:

I have the Italeri/Testors 1/720 kit of CVN-68 and it comes with them.

Thanks Ed...that scale probably wouldn't work with my 1/540 Oriskany.

I may have to get the new italeri essex class carrier in 1/700 scale for the angled deck version and the iron shipwrights 1/700 scale essex for the straight deck version of Oriskany.

Doc

Ahh, that's right, you're working on the 1/540ish kit. I have a couple of them in the stash. Got one in the works. Forrestal 1960-61

Hey Nektarios,

Did you say that you had gotten the Ships&Co Intrepid? I just got mine and I think that the flight deck forward of the Island is way to wide. Like a quarter of an inch too wide! It is really obvious if you park an A-4 on the deck. I was wondering if you had made that observation as well. I compared it with my ISW SCB-27A and my DML Essex Class Carriers and it is way off.

Did the SCB-125 refitt make the forward flight deck that much wider or is this just wrong? Kind of a bummer on a $233 kit! The rest of the detail is really nice. I am wondering if I want to do anything about it(ie...get out the blades) or build it as is and leave the aircraft aft so it is not obvious at first glance.

It is giving me some ideas on a scratch build from Antietam to a SCB-125 Kearsarge.

Ooffffffff! :cry_3:
