Ready............Set..................GO!! I think I'll go with the 1/700 JAG USS Allen M. Sumner DD-692 FRAM. I'm not sure which ship I'll depict, yet. ![]() |

Look forward to seeing what everyone has planned! Matt Ditto! I have a great idea for one along those lines that I'd like to do if it's allowed. Only all participants in my dio are as yet un-started. Still not sure who to build but the options so far are as follows: WEMs 1/700 HMS Starling Skywave 1/700 Butler Class DE Twin pack. Whiff Ideas see my USN Convoy Escorts thread in the Whiff Section. Thinking of building my "Super DDE" from either a Butler or a Fletcher kit. Hmmm....decisions, decisions. Anyone have any input? |

I will also join in this "Tin Can" Group Build. I will be building a 1943 USS Fletcher. I just ordered the stuff for this build from Pacific Front, now the pressure is on Bill to get the order to me in a timely manner(which he always does by the way). I'm pretty sure that I won't get it finished in the four months allocated for the build, what with the Monssen and Buchanan on the work bench at this time. I'm looking forward to your in progress pictures. I have spiked (as they say in the siding business) this post with a picture so there's no turning back. Attachment: These were from the spares box. I removed the molded on deck from the aft twin 40mm tear drop shield. The 20mm supports and shields are from a Dragon B/G's kit. The shoulder supports are from the L'Arsenal 20mm set and I'll use the L'Arsenal 20mm guns also. Now to wait until my order gets here. |

Mmmmmm that Sumner looks awesome! I've always loved the Sumner/Gearing designs. They have that unexplainable style among them. I'm in so far with one of my Butler Class DEs. Cleaned up the hull and the basic superstructure parts before dinner. Will post some photos later. |

NukeMM, your Sumner is coming along nicely. ![]() ![]() As for me, I will be doing Van Ghent or Evertsen when they become available from Pac Front. The other DD I will have to look in the stash and pick one out tonight and give my decision tomorrow. Bob Pink. |

Is anyone else playing along on this Group Build? This is my first participation in such of a thing. I know its not a race but, my enthusiasm has been peaked. In my haste to get a coat of finish color on it, I forgot to apply the prop guards and the vertical ladders, first. The barrels and mostly the blast bags on the turrets don't look quite right to me. They are what came with the kit and I've had to chisel off some of the wrinkles in the bags to get them to fit in the turret slots. I've seen the blast bags only in one 1962 photo of the ship. Late 1960's pics show no bags that I can see. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I am in the groupbuild too... Am thinking of a 1/350 Spruance or Kidd or Arleigh Burke but have not decided yet... Perhaps a 1/350 DDG 16 could come in as well... Or something bigger... Awesome progress Carl... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I guess this is enough for one weekend. Decks have been painted and turrets permanently attached as are the hedgehogs and Mk37. ![]() ![]() |

Here are the 1/700 Trumpy Eskimo (foreground) , and Loose Cannon Cossack(background) along with Cossack's parts. I have just drilled all the portholes on the Eskimo kit and have yet to do any work on Cossack. The Cossack is the far more detailed kit. ![]() ![]() ![]() Bob Pink. |

Dear All, Count me in. I bought the Dragon 1/700 Livermore/Monssen combo at the weekend with this in mind. I'll do the Monssen as presented in the kit, but the other I'll convert to something in a somewhat later timeframe, perhaps Buchanan in the Measure 31 scheme. Just got to work out how to upload photos to this part of the website!!! Kind regards, David Griffith |

Interesting to see Carl's build of the Fram Sumner, I', almost finished with my build of the kit as the Argentine Hipolito Bouchard. A nice kit, certainly to be recommended. Very nice clean job so far Carl if I may say. Just need to find some 700 scale Argentine roundels, any ideas anyone? Mike |

David Griffith wrote: Just got to work out how to upload photos to this part of the website!!! David, Below the box where you enter your text are two tabs. One says "Options" the other says "Upload Attachment". Click the latter, then click on "Browse", which will open a box that says "Choose File". From there, browse on your PC to the spot your photos are, then click "Open". When the boxes closed, click "Add the file". Repeat as needed. *Addition by TimmyC: You can also view a visual guide here: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1261 Page 2 here: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=54280&st=365&start=20 |
