This is a question for the Moderators, Nothing serious or important so no rush for you to reply.

Years back I started making models for Myself of RN Ships I had been to Sea on and they morphed into picture type things as easier to hang on wall – no problem still model warships so sent them in.
Then started some T45 scratchbuilds, still not problem as model warships of a kind.
Then went a bit more Arts and Craft which morphed into NOTOTO’s, still model warships but foreshortened so Okish.

Now I am going a bit away from models as I am making metal and resin Bas Reliefs for Ship and Naval Crown, a continuation of NOTOTO but getting close to under 15hrs work, playing about with painting some of the Ships parts to make it less breakable. Vertical ones shown, the IDRIS name is the Dragon from Ivor the Engine as playing about with ideas for myself and is not finished yet, mix of resin, plastic and painted bits. Dauntless was Decommissioned so it has no sails, no painted RN in crown and crest black and white - should really of been in dry dock but was playing with sea technique, needs improving.
Making horizontal ones which take more time but more enjoyable background. Doing some at present for some ex-entry lads I joined up with as only way to move them forward as see the faults when making for someone else, I would not want to let them down with rubbish. Causing a lot of changes and different directions, all for the good, but should hopefully be there next month or so.

Would you be happy for me to show the working for these so people can make, modify as they please, not really model warships though.
I am more than happy to show working for Oval, Dogs Bollock, resin dye, metal dye and reasoning behind it all with your permission,
Regards
Shaun Oh SHaiPe comes from Ship Shape took ages to find a nice name for them, its the letters they share.

Finished Idris HMS Dragon, pictures below.

The vertical design OK and around 10hrs work as just simple bas relief which the T45 Destroyers allowed me to explore as not much sticking out, other Ship classes most probably more difficult, time will tell.
If anyone wants to copy, modify or change fill your wellies for whatever purpose you want.

The design comes from playing about with all the elements of RN Ships Crests and are meant to be a momento for individuals who went to sea on the Pussers War Canoe. The ones I will be making are angled towards Service Charities and Associations as its just a hobby, so I have tried to make it varied and interesting with lots of different aspects to reflect "Jack of all trades, Master of none" - Marine Artificers.

To get them more professional I am making some for My former Entry, already changed the design of Dogs Bollock as I realised too small for individuals with lots of initials in their names, plus more room on back for entire World if on a Tour. By the way its a Dogs Bollock under the Oval for the individual as in Britain there is a saying "The Dogs Bollocks" which means excellent, exceptional or the very best, which about sums up anyone in the RN (All Nations proud of their Seafarers so applies to all I am sure). Dogs Bollocks also sure to upset normal people so apt for Matelots.

The Horizontal design gives the opportunity to give a background and more of the Ship to make it more personal, down side is it takes more time. Hopefully a Nautical feel with wood, cord (rope), chain, resin, metal, sealants, glue, various paint, ships crest, Battle Honours and same picture but different. Horizontal design also shown. I will start how I do the Bas Relief Ship in a Month or so, unless this is deemed a bit of a liberty.
Shaun

Right, sorry for the delay, trials and preps took and taken an age.

Firstly did two SHaiPe for Leander Batch 3, broad beamed with a twin mounted gun on the front, both shown. These two allowed me to play with sea material use and how to get the Ships sticky out bits part 2D, part 3D and repeatable.

Then a batch of 6 for Entry lads – near finishing, could have been better but will hopefully improve with next one, LPD HMS Intrepid.

The last picture 1950’s Daring class Destroyer Bow view for a vertical SHaiPe – My Father was on HMS Diana and although now “crossed the bar” has been awarded a medal for taking part in the British Atomic Bomb Tests as a uninformed voluntold Guinea Pig. I go off in tangents and could not resist doing Him a SHaiPe with medal, plus it allows me to show you how I do the Ship die. I realised you can use clay or a variety of different methods.

I have found getting a picture from the WWW, cutting out a pleasing view then building up paper layers gets the size about right and allows a degree of choice. I then cover the paper in a mix of wood glue and wood adhesive. This sets rock hard so I can then file it to what I would like, plus its clean to do until the filing which I do outside. It does not turn out like the picture as you do not need some of the deck furniture – its just has to resemble it, its for old salts not not memory men. The sticky out bits being a mix of pen and paint then modified etch, steel and plastic rod and anything else that gives the impression of the specific object. Railings for me are not needed, its to jog the memory with a glance so not a model warship.

The final mixyblob of materials may not last long but the ones I have last OK indoors and by doing it for My entry hopefully over the next 6 years I can improve and simplify – possibly. There is no way I can make these for everyone who would want one, as once seen (they are better I think in reality than in the pictures) I can see a lot of ex Servicemen wanting them – though possibly not.
If you fancy adapting the design fill your wellies with My Blessing, they are momentos of someones past at an important time, so fill your wellies.

File comment: Does not look too bad, but is only meant to make you smile, helping to remember the daft things you did, not really a model Ship, just a glimpse and play of the mid.
