> A brief history > >> The Royal Thai Government had bought ex-HMS MINSTREL , Algerine class ocean minesweeper from the Royal Navy in April 1947 which cost 230,000 GBP. She was commissioned to the Royal Thai Navy(RTN) on 20 November 1947 and renamed HTMS PHOSAMTON. >> A ship displacement was 1,097 tons STD , 1,350 tons FL, length 67.50m., breadth 10.68m., draught 2.90m.(bow), 3.025m.(stern). Main machinery power was two vertical triple-expansion steam engines generated 2,000 HP total, three boilers, two shafts, 16 knots max speed and operated with 113 crews. >> Armaments in 1968 were 1-102/45mm.QF gun, 2-twin 20/70mm.Oerlikon AA guns with MKV powered mount, 2-single 20/70mm.Oerlikon AA guns with MKII/III mount, 4-DC throwers, 2-DC racks, 1-"O" type minesweeping gear, 1-magnetic minesweeping gear and 2-acoustic minesweeping gears. >> HTMS PHOSAMTON was the smallest and most longest voyage foreign warship which joined the Coronation Fleet Review, Spithead 1953. >> HTMS PHOSAMTON was decommissioned in early 2006. She was towed to King Taksin historical dockyard in Chantaburi province to displayed as a memorial ship but a project was no progress due a lack of funding.
> About the diorama > This diorama was built in late 2022 (September-November) on 9x22cm clear and stackable box base. Port and portside were were made from 0.5mm styrene sheet, various size of round and square rods. Trees were made from small natural wood stick while bunch come from small piece of colored sponges. Water base made from flat skylight fiberglass roof sheet, wakes were formed and brushed with heavy gel medium. Other element came from varies aftermarket PE parts as described above. Sorry for unclear detail images which used auto mode mobile phone camera (only F1.4) and cropped with Photoshop.
