The colors used in the US Navy are according to Federal Standard for FS36270 superstructures, FS36118 deck and FS36375 radomes.
Mr.Color 305, Vallejo 70868 and Humbrol 125 and 123 have the same equivalence to FS36118. They can vary in chromatic intensity.
If you search for the standard federal reference you can easily find the equivalences. Thus, for Vallejo the equivalences are 70868 (FS36118) for the roof, 70870 (FS36270) for the superstructures and 70990 (FS36375) for the radomes.
In my models these are the references that I have used. I used Humbrol before, but found it easier with Vallejo.

Hi to everybody.

I'm asking to you a suggest for bending little ladders

I've these 2 little ladders
Image

and I have to bend along the red line
I usually use my bender and I put the ladder under the little tooth and then I bend both sides.
Image

With these ladders the tooth is wider than the ladder, so if I bend one side, the tooth covers the other side not letting me to bend the other one.
So I couldn't do it. I've tried to use other parts of the bender but I've not found a solution that helps to keep the ladder down and bend the side of it.

Do you have any suggestion or have you found any solution during your works??

Thanks a lot

1) Rotate top part of the bender 180 degrees, long end down
2) Put one part of the ladder (left of your red line) under the bender, bend 1
3) Put other part of the ladder (right of your red line) under the bender, bend 2

Here the lower part of the hull finished

The color combination is 33% hull red, 33% red and 33% thinner.
After the first coat, the black lines were very visible.
Let it dry for 2 days and then another coat.

Now is less visible directly, while you easly see the grid in the reflection.

Hope having done a good job. For me it's the first time I do a work like this one!
Hope you like it.
In any case if you have any suggestion tell me!

Hi everybody, here a little update.
I've slow down my work on the model (it was already slow before so imagine how slow it's now!) so I've not proceed too much.

Let's start with the images. I've mounted the part that covers the hangars, I've sanded the junction and continued with the lines.

Image

Image

Ended the backside of the hangar. Now I'll spray the final grey (actually it's only the primer in the image) e try to do also the white lines.

Image

Proceeding also with the first funnel.
Losing some diopter to put them in the holes! I've also to fix some handles I've seen in this pictures.

Hi everybody. Here with an upgrade

Thanks to the national holiday I've made some progresses

Here the pictures:
A coat of primer to the funnel

Completed the second funnel

Image

Made vertical and horizontal lines on the main structure.
I've put some putty and then sanded very well to hide the attachment line to the hull

Now I'm beginning to do the bow. Then cover all and I'll begin with the grey on all the structure and hull

hello everyone, I'm approaching to the limits of my abilities: I'd like to dirty the part around the holes of the smokestacks with black. How to do? I would use black + thinner, but how much about thinner? 50% black and 50% thinner? And do I use an airbrush or a brush?

Image

Any suggestion?
Thanks a lot

Hi all, here a little update.

Here the funnels dirty. It's my first time I try to make dirty or "used" a model.
I've used the Tamiya black panel liner and then I've passed with a cotton swab dipped in turpentine.
Hope having used the right tecnique.

Here the results.

Please give me suggestions if you see something I can improve.
Thanks

Hi all, here I am with an update!

I'm close to the end for the main structure.
Funnels are ready, superstructure is ok (weathering in the future).
Only some parts on the sides of the ship miss, but I'll put them later after decals because I've to lay the ship on the side for putting the decals.

Decals chapter:
At the beginning I've found some difficulties to put the Pontos decals. I've never used the dry transfer method.
Unfortunately the only decal didn't go on the ship is the name!!
SPRUANCE appears very badly. I tried to cut the letter of other names and tranfering them on the missing/half-missing ones but I couldn't. No letter seems to detach from the film! I don't understand why.
The rest of the decals has attached well or quite well

Now I'd like to weather the landing deck. Hope to do good job. I'm newbie with the weathering and so I'm always unsure how to do it.

Excellent progress! How difficult has it been sealing the gaps between the different PE plates? I was expecting to see gaps after paint, but you have done a great job of eliminating them!

Keep up the good work!

Thanks! the PE are well defined so they are really really perfect so matching each other is very simple: the only problem in this case is my hand shaking :doh_1:
The plates of the deck are really perfect and are big pieces:
All of these are only one piece:
Landing deck
Bow deck
central deck
upper central deck

So for those non problem to fit on the ship

Hi guys, works are proceeding and finally I've mounted most of the overstructure.
Funnels and the rest are placed.

Image

Mast antenna is next step

I try a little weathering effect on the landing deck but I want to increase it and above all on the both path to the hangars
Image

Funnels are placed. And placed also the Spruance coat of arms
Image

Also on the bow I tried to make white less bright giving a darker tone
Image

Last thing I tried an initial pipes effects on the sides of the hull. Not really amazing. I wanna redo them at the end when the ship is finished
Image

Hope you like it

Looking really, really good! I am working with a friend of mine on a 1/200 Montana battleship/carrier (BBV). Your attention to detail is really inspiring me to to the best work on my own work!

Hi all, after a little pause here I'm again to show my progresses.
I've completed the mast.
I've found some difficulties with the long railings.
One of these 2 is a little ruined. During the fighting to put in the correct way, I risked losing it completely.

The second one I've cutted in many parts so I could put each part better.

here some images!
