Thanks everybody and Hello. Round 4

Image
Rodney's 6"-gun turrets with Pontos and a MM 8x10 Carley Float. Used 15 min. epoxy top bass pieces for plenty of time to adjust.

Image
Simple no drama, a good way to ease back in.

Thanks guys :thumbs_up_1:

Image
6" guns with paint. The color differences between the base and guns is a gloss coat on the bases.

Image
Main 44" search lights. I drilled them out so I could use some Kristal Klear lenes before the front grill is added.

Hello.

Image
Searchlights painted flat black with silver painted on the back wall of the hole I drilled to represent a reflector. Kristal Klear was used for the lenes. They reflect back if enough light to gets to them otherwise the just look black.

Image
The two on the stack.

Image
The two on the main mast. I invested in a sheet of poster board to get rid of the background clutter.

Hello

Image
The Type 279 air warning radars were replaced by the Type 281 during the 9/41 refit, so the Pontos radars were used. Pontos includes Type 291 (42) that mounts above it but does not get installed.

Image
Another Type 289 on the main mast. I goof up a little mounting the radar. It should go closer to the mast and attach directly to the mast, but for some reason I missed it.

Image
The wires should touch the radar mast at each point, since the main mast one is mounted incorrectly, they stand off a bit. It does not bother me enough to risk breaking something trying to repair it.

I was wondering if navigation lights were displayed on yard arms of the mast. I painted the top two red as warning lights while in port and was thinking of doing the lower two as navigation lights if it made any sense.

Hello everyone, little bit of progression.

Image
Rigging that was included in the Pontos set added.

Image
The rest of Rodney's Pom Pom guns. I broke off a couple sites removing the supports, so I replace all the printed sights with Pontos PE ones included in the set.

Every time I see you post an update, I'm tempted to buy this kit. Must resist... :no_2:

Thanks :thumbs_up_1:

Image
Nice to have the pom-pom tubs finally filled.

Image
Rear pre Bismark, maybe early mid 30s.

Image
The rear plaques from the Pontos set just hand painted with the top layer rubbed off. The Griffon is just natural brass with a clear coat.

Image
On the rear I added two port holes that were missing and a bell.

That's beautiful work. The detail is really well done, and I'm impressed with how you lettered the plaques even.

Through my day job, I was shown a strip of cartridge links that were found in the vicinity of the Bedford Magazine a couple of years ago. They were trying to figure out what they were from. Turns out it was a belt/link from the 2 pdr Pom Pom.

Very cool to find!

(It was debris from the 1945 Halifax Explosion.)

Thanks, NavyShooter.

The Pontos catapult is one of the larger assembles of the kit.

Hello :wave_1:

Image
Micro Master's 27' RN Whale Boasts. In use from 1810 to 1970 with New Zealand being the last to use them.

Image
Rodney's C (X) turret 9/41. Not much difference just no 20mm tubs. May add some line from the rudder to the steering control on the Whale Boats.

Image
Tighter shot showing off a thumb print I missed with the other assembles installed. Catapult stilled needs some more paint work and a wash. Nothing is fitted or glued down yet.
Whale Boats have had a wash and a bit dry brushing.

Ship's boats continued with Micro Master's 50' Steam Pinnace.

Image
One of Rodney's Pinnace from 1940. Looks damaged, maybe when Rodney was strafed and bombed by a German plane.

Image
Deck piece painted.

Image
Windows and port holes were added with Kristal Klear. Broke of a propeller blade and front rails on one. Still hoping to find the broken blade.

Image
Just a rough test fit on the ship. Not crazy about the brown I chose for the cabins. Some more work has to be done to the boats. Would like to put a couple white bans around the stack. Maybe a white ban between the black waterline and the grey.

Those boats and catapult look great! Each of them are little models in their own right. :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Thanks Marijn, that's the way I look at it with the kit acting as a display stand.

Image
Another one of Rodney's Pinnaces from 1940 as well.

Image
Some revisions made were removing the ship's name box and replaced it with a life ring and a navigation light. The decals around the stack are from a 1/700 Japanese Float Plane prop warning. Corticine might be a better choice for cabin roof.

Most excellent modelling progress !

It is all very sharp!. :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Indeed the catapult is a thing of beauty !
nice enough to display on its own!

The Micromaster whalers are a beauty-- I was studying in detail the 1/96 versions...
https://micromaster.co.nz/products/1-96 ... -whaler-x1

looks like it scaled down well to 1/200
Love the handle on the top of closed centre-plate case...- just lovely

Ref the pinnaces--
as they are still removable from the main ship... :thumbs_up_1:
you said:

Maybe a white ban between the black waterline and the grey.<<<

Use some very fine white decal stripe

( I use TL decals mail ordered from Germany-- by far and away the best stripes ( in many colours)
-- no overhanging carrier film and DEAD straight )

Hope it is of assitance

Greetings all, round 5. Thank Jim, I'll check those decals out.

The last of the ship's boats. Micro Master 45' Motor Launch and
36' Pulling Pinnace. The Micro Master boats are a little bit chunkier compared to what Trumpeter provided, so spacing them is a little different compared to stock locations.

Ships' boats installed. They aren't glued to their cradles yet so I can still pull them off to work on. Like finding a rudder a broke off.

Image
Most of the shelter deck finished. Trying to build out and up. The last of armament installed with the 20mm installed by the bridge just about the drift boat with a barrel up.
