you can see the quality by the overscale deck planking/plating on the model.

They're overscale, but not as much as they would be if they were intended to depict wooden planks. They're supposed to depict these raised strips:

For the 1940 version of the Bretagne, there are some big mistakes...

And in certain details, I suppose the Chinese have done their news shopping on our forum.

The problem is that you have to go through the ship's documentation to make the 1940 version from the 1915 version...

For example, 8 of the 140 mm guns had been removed from the bow and stern, the most exposed to the sea. And the ship had to be lightened for the new guns.

Upside-down stack pipes etc.

A lot of things to rectify at first sight, maybe easily... or not. We don't have the assembly instructions for the kit.

Hard to tell if it's a 3D image or a photo of the assembled model.

SS Model has based its production on the use of existing 3D models from World of Warships and War Thunder. They don't do any research of their own, they use an existing model from the game (I assume unlicensed), just tweak the details and print the product based on it. This allows them to expand their range enormously in a short period of time. The print quality itself is good (I only have one of their models, USS Nevada). Their customer support is considered OK as well.

I wonder why I'd do it for a commercial project in which I have no interest...

Anyway, I haven't really documented the 1940 version of Bretagne yet, which I'll do later.

For the moment, I'm concentrating on the 1915-16 version, which is already a lot of work to avoid making too many mistakes. It was necessary to buy and read books about these battleships, and to research a lot of pictures.

What's more, the 3 battleships in the class have slight differences from plan and the outset, as they were built in 3 different shipyards: Brest (Bretagne), Lorient (Provence) & Saint Nazaire (Lorraine).

I'll only build 2 versions of the Bretagne, if I have the courage for the 1940 version at 1/200. I have other projects to finish before that.

I haven't bought one of the SSModels 1/1250 ships, but I will pretty darn soon. Judging from what I see on eBay, they are dandy little kits, in a wide range (North Dakota, Wyoming) and awfully affordable. DavidP, thanks for helping them out. These kits are opening a whole new world for 1/1250 ships, and probably other scales. I have been a member of this group for a few years now, and I have yet to see a kit in any scale or from any manufacturer or read of one on this website that didn't "have issues," but SSModels seems willing to fix theirs. I hope the company gets things arranged with our moderators and gets named as a contributor (or sponsor, if that's what we're calling them.) I'm glad to see the 1/1250 field opening up.
