Hello everyone,

I would like to share some photos of my latest model, the SMS Derfflinger sometime just before the Battle of Jutland in 1/700 scale. The model is the Flyhawk/Takom kit (I like full hull models), with several extras:

- Flyhawk upgrade set with photetched details and brass barrels.
- Micromaster main gun turrets.
- Nickel silver, brass, and steel masts and yardarms.
- Custom 3D printed boats and ModellbauRay motorboats.
- Ocean Spirit steel railings.
- Custom 3D printed deck fittings, skylights, bollards, winches,
compasses, secondary armament, searchlights, derricks, anchor chain,
screws, torpedo net, torpedo net booms, torpedo net davits, and capstans.
- Rigging made with stretched sprue, Uschi vdR elastic thread, and
Modelkasten metal wire.
- Painted with mixes of acrylic paints from Vallejo and AK Interactive.[/list]

I had a lot of fun bulding this model. The rigging was the most complicated part for me, specially the torpedo net booms, since they all have to look somewhat the same. The real ship has very beautiful lines and very balanced look.

Sublime work on one of the best looking ships ever built. I think may be the best work you've posted, and that's saying something. I love the overall presentation - the build is clean, it's nicely weathered, with excellent details. The rigging is superb and kudos to adding the black line around the bottoms of the superstructure. I'm not brave enough to do that in 1/350, to see you do it in 1/700 it really impressive.

Thank you guest, Marijn, mick, Dan and Martin! I really appreciate the kind words :wave_1:

@Marijn: I learned a lot about painting from you (still learning!), thank you.

@Martin: i used black strip decals from Print Scale with a width of 0,2mm for the black lines (skirting boards?). They went on easy and since they are decals, they are easy to correct if there are mistakes.. I think 0,4 or 0,5mm would look good in 1/350. I am also studying your "gin palace" build, I will start working on the one from Flyhawk.

Extremely well done. Very beautiful model of a beautiful ship, and in full hull it is gorgeous to see. :thumbs_up_1: Kudos, you should be proud of your work, and while this is a good kit to start with, youve done really nicely on top of it with all the numerous extras. Very clean, and crisp, like those little hull plating below waterline highlighted sparringly. Painting also top notch, colors look great, deck isnt dark, the boot topping is super straight and even. This is how I want my models to look.

Thank you pascalemod! well, the painting job is not as clean as I would have liked to, but it is there. In photos of the real ship after the battle of Jutland you can see that detail.

Thank you Jim! When I told you I was going to start building this model, you gave me a lot of tips and tricks for this ship. I used them in this build. I thank you a lot for that and really appreciate it. :wave_1:
