I have a large number of ships for the USN WWII to paint and hope to find a good haze gray ...Tamiya is the main paint brand i use but open to others, the problem with some of the custom paint sets such as the ones for the various WWII naveis, is they offer only small plastic bottles and it does not go far.
the Tamiya Haze gray i see listed is too dark and too blue. I may have to try just a pale gray of any make.
spray versions are also welcome but mostly i paint by hand.
I have tried many Haze grays offered but most are either too blue or too dark or off in tone. suggestions very welcome thanks in advance.
i am also faced with solving deck colors for the USN ships it appears from my research that many decks were painted a dark tone gray of some sort though some of the larger ships, CA and BB had wood decks at least at the start of the war. Various non slip surfaces were tried, some navies used Linoleum but it burns well so was later on not a poplar choice.
hard to find good quality color photos exp from high up angles looking down.
I found the USN Painting and Cementing Guide of 1943 online here:
https://www.shipcamouflage.com/painting ... ng_toc.htmand the USN comoflage painting guide for various ship types: 1945
https://www.shipcamouflage.com/ships2_9 ... ntents.htmI have an original WWII set of USN 1200 scale ship models in a boxed set that may or may not be painted in an actual USN gray color.

USS New Mexico BB off Guam July 1944
this is one of the most usefuli color photos from WWII of USN ships that shows how light and neutral (ie NOT tinted green or blue) the standard USN Gray was.
I am still going to asses a number of various Taimaya colors but their Haze gray is way off.
this photo also shows the deck covered in some kind of either wood desking stained dark or some other coating. this helps a lot for that too.

This is a good color photo from a newsreel of a USN cruiser in the Pacific showing the deck color, wood i am guessing.
and another photo from 1945 off Pelliu on a US Battleship unidentified showing the dark deck covering of some sort.
