"Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday." John Wayne
That's a shame this offering had more issues with it than the Mutsuki reviewed last month. I appreciate Dan's work with these IJN ship reviews. It's odd how Triumph is choosing to interpret the hull plating on their offerings. It seems pretty obvious when compared to the prototype that it's overstated, or just plane fictional as seen in Dan's comparison photo in his review.
I usually enjoy writing up a review, but this one was a bit of a shock, particularly as it came right on the heels of the Mutsuki kit which, outside of the plating (and my sample hull), is an excellent kit.
I'm not the first one to point out errors with this kit, but the sheer number of them really took me by surprise.
Word on the street is that Triumph acknowledged the criticisms and plans to improve its research. Whether or not that might mean a corrected and re-issued Akizuki is unknown at this time.
Granted, this pic of the imminent Triumph 1/350 Shiratsuyu class kit release is a marketing shot that I grabbed off the net, but it does seem like the hull plating is toned down. No word yet on whether or not we'll get a review sample.
I noticed that others have commented about the hull plating on the Triumph Model Facebook page, so hopefully they take that feedback to heart. After seeing your positive Mutsuki review, I was thinking I'd like to build a multi media kit with the resin hull and all those great detailed 3D printed parts. So in looking into Triumph Model I was psyched to see they have the 1/350 scale IJN Fubuki in the pipeline. I just hope they take the feedback/reviews of their other kits into consideration as they work on the development of the Fubuki.
The news about the 1/350 Fubuki is definitely promising. If they apply the lessons from their earlier kits and refine things further, it could turn into a fantastic release. I’m really looking forward to seeing how the project develops.
I wish FineMolds had taken the extra steps to make one of their own from the Type II kit. Even if just Uranami, which would only required Type A turrets and a simplified upper bridge. Seems like a no brainer to me. Perhaps this will be a spur to them..........
