Calling all USN Landing Ship Tank (LST) fans
Hello everyone. I am looking for Ga plans for converting an LST with a flight deck for a Piper Cub and with the Brodie system. Does anyone have any information about where such plans might be located or maybe have them? Regards

Re: LST and their conversions
In reading this, https://laststandonzombieisland.com/201 ... -carriers/
It seems that not all LSTs were converted the same way.
Sources indicate that 3 to 5 were converted.
Not all had flight decks, not all had the Brodie system.
Not all flight decks were the same size.
And, more importantly, the Army Seabees did the modifications.
I suspect that there were no official Navy plans modified to reflect the changes.
This wiki page provides more info, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brodie_landing_system
The plans linked to also state it is the USS Princeton, LST-906.
LST-906 was never named, making this source a bit suspect.
You might have to rely solely on photos for your info. The Ships most probably only had minor alterations other than the Brodie rigging and flight decks installed.

Re: LST and their conversions
I contacted the author of this drawing. He drew it based on the landing grid of the LST and many photographs of the flight deck. You have to ask and search further for original plans!

Re: LST and their conversions
Reference is in "L-Birds" by Terry M Love and "Light Planes at War" by Ken Wakefield. No plans in either but a number of photographs.
It seems that the flightdeck-equipped LSTs only served in Europe (Italian campaign) and the Brodie system was only operational on a single LST, at Okinawa, and planned to be used on four more LSTs for the invasion of Japan.

LST armament ?
Hi all!
I have some difficulties establishing the weapons fit for (specific) LSTs. Wikipedia, Navsource and the ONI-226 only give very general numbers, with the ONI numbers in particular not going together with the sketches in the same work. Working from photographs is also difficult because LSTs seldomly were photographed from a suitable angle. This all is a bit annoying...
So, is there something like a nice little guide to the LSTs' most common armament variants, including data about the location of the particular guns and - ideally - which LST had which variant(s)?
Thx in advance!
Michi

Re: LST armament ?
I'm looking for (at least a rough) overview of all three subclasses (excluding the ships in British service) during ww2.

Re: LST armament ?
Thank you very much for pointing me to archive.org !
Stupid me should have thought of that myself...
I suppose LST-983 shows the final weapons fit "as designed" (as opposed to late war upgrades due to kamikaze threat in the Pacific) ?
That leaves a few gaps to fill since the 6 20mm Oerlikons of LST-1 as built. But nonetheless the picture has gotten a lot clearer by now!

Re: LST and their conversions
I am looking for information on the 1944 paint scheme of the USS LCT 906 and the paints used on the Piper Cub planes taking off from the deck of LST 906.
