USS Bunker Hill 1991 - 1/700 - Flyhawk Deluxe Ver.

Post by Yuth »

While waiting for my JFK's air wing, a quick little escort ship to start with, alongside the beginnings of Flyhawk's Bunker Hill (Deluxe Edition).

'Little' might be an understatement... the Deluxe version still comes with 4 packed PE frets!
Proving once again that modern doesn't always mean sparse...

First up, the hull.

Next, we’re tackling the superstructure, and that's going to be a bit of a sport...

The tiny supports are ultra-fine, and two were already broken on the sprue... doing the best I can to replace them...

A quick little dry fit to see how it looks! :)"

After a coat of black primer, most of the horizontal surfaces are sprayed with Vallejo 71.097. Once masked, the vertical sections will be painted in Mr Hobby H306.

Masking the deck with Parafilm: the talc trick is absolutely vital for those like me who get slightly damp fingers (and for the record, you can't just talk your way out of sticky situations). The result? Not a single issue!

We're spraying the H306 onto the hull, which isn't waiting for any more parts.

Off comes the Parafilm, and presto!

Gluing down a bit of PE...

I’ve had some issues with a few PE parts coming unstuck (maybe during the recent hot spell? It’s a mystery).
And since I wasn’t entirely happy with the look, I wondered whether it might be worth trying to simulate them with stretched sprue on a test Ticonderoga.

Unfortunately, it looks a bit too out of scale.
