Flyhawk 1/700 HMS Ajax as in 1941
This is my build of Flyhawk's excellent 1/700 Ajax kit that I finished a half year ago. The ship will be featured in a diorama as one of a trio of HM warships shown at the beginning of 1941 at Souda Bay, Crete. The cruiser is shown taking on stores and undergoing replenishment, hence the on-deck activity depicted. The build was relatively straightforward because the kit is well-detailed and, as a Deluxe Edition contained a lot of extra detail, most notably a comprehensive photoetch set. I modified the kit to represent the vessel in her 1941 guise, which entailed replacement of the bridge structure with a 3D printed item from MIcro Master, replacement of the catapult by a four-barrel pom-pom mount, scratch building tripod masts in lieu of the original poles, etc. 3D printed weapons and boats from Micro Master were also used, along with many smaller parts from a number of manufacturers. Some wooden crates, wooden and steel barrels were added along with around 150 3D printed crew members from various manufacturers. The ship was painted with WEM Colourcoats and weathered mostly with AK products.

Beautiful model George!
The detail and paint scheme is extremely fine! Photographs don't do it justice.

Dan, Erick,
Thank you so much!
The photographs were taken by a friend and are much better than the ones I could take.
However it is best to view the (in fact any) model in the flesh.
