1/700 Nimitz WIP

Post by jgrease »

Ok, a snow day, so i finished another squadron on my Nimitz build. Here are a few new pics:
Two A6 Intruders of VA-35 "Black Panthers" await a ride on the port elevator while two others sit on the flight deck:

An F4 of VMFA-333 "Shamrocks" awaits launch while its' wingman taxis into place. The remaining members of the squad are visible on the deck:

The latest view from the stern end of the flight deck:

An overhead view of Nimitz' flight deck. The remaining planes of VA-86 will be parked along the forward end of the flight deck on the starboard side:

I eagerly await your feedback. The other John.

Looks fantastic :thumbs_up_1:

My Oriskany is moving at a glacial pace (Nektarios, you will have mail soon  ), but now I have figured out the hull blisters and it should move faster. The sponsons are going to be a bit of a challenge.

Avery, what kit are you using? Looking forward to hearing more about it. Like I said, I have a BHR on the shelf and am sure I will soon have an Antietam as well. I'd like them to be as accurate as I can get them.

Trumpy kit. I am writing an article on it because I have had so much trouble with it.

What would you like to know? I have a huge amount of photos and some plans too.

Hi Avery,
Totally agree the Trumpy kit is a nightmare to work with :censored_2:, i will use mine as a conversion to a Hurricane bow/Angled deck Essex or just trash it and use a Dragon kit :thumbs_up_1:

Happy modeling

Between the kit and the almost complete lack of reliable information on the conversion ( I saw one site that claimed the blisters widened the hull to 120 feet!!!!) it is really slow going. I can only be thankful to a certain (russian) site (that I'm not supposed to mention) for placing drawings of Oriskany online. Though they ARE russian they are good quality and appear to be quite accurate. Oh, and the VAST number of photos of Oriskany waiting to be sunk off Pensacola. Without those two resources I would never have attempted the conversion.

It's currently on hold (AGAIN) while I work up the patience to continue with the d*** thing. I'm almost finished adding the blisters onto the hull. Next up is the hurricane bow and flightdeck sponsons.
