Re: rareish ww2 film footage
Nice very nice, good background, &if I may suggest the following
1 reduce the volume of the sound effects,& an air raid warning siren on a ship though?
2 calmer water ( not looking like a force 6 storm)
& more ballast in the ship (it bobs around like a cork)*
3 limit the rudder throw to give a more scale like turning circle & turn down the speed, on the speed controller
4 a waterproof camera or housing failing that, a cheap square clear plastic box with high sides**, plastic aquarium or insect enclosure, to put the camera in, & view from the aspect of a small boat, that is near "sea level"(will need some lead to stabilise the box as well)
*with the ship more ballast but grab some foam, the type they pack around TVs etc, to fill up the empty spaces in the ship & glue it in, in case water does get in, there is less chance of filling up with water & sinking.
** unfortunatly water can still get in over the top if you are not careful.
have fun though

Re: rareish ww2 film footage
What's the point? What's the STORY?
It needs a voice-over narration. That will provide the point, by providing the story. There's too much dead air - ANY amount of dead air is too much & this clip has nothing BUT dead air. There should be some spoken language at all times except for a very few seconds'-worth of pauses. The background soundtrack should be just that, background - nothing more.

Or perhaps a silent film sort of thing, with subtitles for the story.

Re: rareish ww2 film footage
There's a very good reason that sort of thing hasn't been seen in "mainstream" cinema since about 1930. However, that's really a topic for a filmmaking forum, not a ship modeling one. I wonder what sort of useful advice one might get about ship modeling on filmmaking.net, for example.Timmy C wrote:Or perhaps a silent film sort of thing, with subtitles for the story.

Interesting thread over on the K-Bismark website here about the color of Bismarck's turret tops.

Re: Calling all DKM Bismarck & Tirpitz fans
Hi , sorry for my english. i am building the tirpitz from scratch (1/200) with june-july 1942 camouflage . Warship pictorial 26 and Kriegsmarine colors vol.1 from AJ press show the tirpitz with green , some people say it is gray. What your opinion about that? If i am wrong with the green, i think i will repaint with a another camo. I know some people talk about this camo in this topic.
Thanks!!

Thanks!!

Hi,
The green is ok. Check your reference again and you will see that the right side of the ship was painted green and some brown (as it can be seen in your picture) because she was anchored along the coast. The left side was painted gray and white to confuse anyone who watched the ship from the coast.

Having bought a few $$$ resin kits lately I picked up the Trumpeter Tirpitz for fun. I'm very surprised with the quality and enginering on the model. If you look past their build sequence and concentrate on painting, they have gone out of their way to make parts overlap most of the color changes. Spray the top surfaces and deck, apply all of the painted vertical surfaces and touch up as needed. Great job Trumpeter!

http://www.bismarck-class.dk/tirpitz/ga ... olour.html is this the picture?if so there seems to be some debate over the colorisation (EVERYTHING IS VERY GREEN)the experts seem to doubt its accuracy it appears to be flawed in the development phase,it is thought to be a grey camoflage pattern and a black and white photo.check this site for info it may be of interest to you good luck with your build. modelman66

Re: Calling all DKM Bismarck & Tirpitz fans
Yes, this is the picture. Altough I'm not an expert and maybe the picture was flawed in the development phase, I can accept the green and brown camo. I've never been to Norway but I don't think the forrests were grey there in the summer. I think the grey and white camo would not hide any ship in front of a brown and green background and I'm sure the Germans used those colors which were similar to the background. If you have the Warship Pictorial 26 you can see this camo on page 40 and you also can see the port side of the ship was not totally green and brown.

Re: Calling all DKM Bismarck & Tirpitz fans
Well, I don't build the Tirpitz. Actually I don't have the kit either. I'm currently working on a Trumpeter Nimitz and I still don't know which ship will be the next. A Tamiya Yamato, a Trumpeter Bismarck or a Samek Guam is waiting for laiding down the keel.
