Trumpeter USS San Francisco OOB
After months of putting PE and all the bells and whistles on my last project, I needed a quick 5 day OOB project for therapy. I pulled out my Trumpeter USS San Francisco and thought, "hmmmmmmmmm.... I could do this!"......
The parts fidelity is excellent and detail is tremendous. I would give the parts fit an 8 on a scale of 1 - 10. There was a little sanding and filling - but for the most part the fit was excellent. I will build this again with all the bells and whistles later.
Additionally the model seems to match the drawings on the Classic Warships USS San Francisco book very well - sans a few details.... The kit builds into a nice model.
Highly recommended!

One other thing, the aft mast is about 1/4" too long, so cut off the bottom 1/4" install the mast and away you go...

Wanted to also include this one so you can see that the bow is the correct shape in the kit...

Here's an overall picture.... By the way, the detail on the funnels is the best I've seen in plastic. The steam pipe detail is extraordinary.

Yes, Jon, nice work.
You certainly helped the model. Did the model help you?

Great looking build, Jon.
I also have one of those kits in my pile of ships to build.

Re: Trumpeter USS San Francisco OOB
Thank you all for your kind words.
In a word, "YES!". After tedious PE applications on my last project, a quick and easy project was in order. This OOB build was a breath of fresh air! It's nice to see what one can do with a good kit when one is not constantly worried about things like, "if I do this will the PE not fit? How in the world am I going to keep the railing straight with that bollard there, etc. etc."You certainly helped the model. Did the model help you?
