Re: Carrier Builders Yard, whats on the Slipway
You cross a British CVL, fit it with American equipment which makes it look like a CVA. You fly A-4s and S-2s and Seakings (of the Westland variety) of it and the sailors all answer with "G'day mate!". There was a time you know when British Carriers did not come with a ski-jump!
Its a rainy day project because it is going to require a kit bash and lots of scratch building-and because I have got to prioritse my projects with my fleets needs!

Ever thought of Navalising some of those spare planes, F-16, F-15, F-117, F/EF-111 ect, or building HMS Massive with B-52, B-2 AEW Hercules ect, definetely rainy day builds
WEM have the Buccs so an Eagle/Ark will go hand in hand with my next builds

Why do people think i'm using my imagination to come up with my next carrier? It really happened!
I give you HMAS Melbourne

It really does look like someone did their best to turn it into an American (Non-super) Carrier!

Oops, i wasnt suggesting that, sorry if it came across like that, i was more or less thinking aloud and put that question to you, maybe it should have been a separate post.ASFC wrote:Why do people think i'm using my imagination to come up with my next carrier? It really happened!

I may be wrong here, but i think all Post WW2 CV's with exception of US and France were British built, and many seemed to take the US route like Brazil, Australia, even we adopted the Phantom.

Re: Carrier Builders Yard, whats on the Slipway
Yeah-but they all had their variations-even with Phantoms ours still had its British flavour.
It just draws me in-the idea of modeling a Britsh built CVL that could easily be mistaken for one of its larger American counterparts. Its going to take alot of research, some maths and some drawing before I even cut plasticard (plus acquiring some difficult to get aircraft-the UK isn't exactly overflowing with 1/700 (Skywave possibly?) A-4s or S-2s, although I could persuade WEM to a re-run of those S-2s so that could be one problem solved).
This was one of those Carriers I could not even dream of building this time last year-my scratchbuilding efforts were still developing and the need to paint all the deck markings was a problem (until I did Victorious at least!).

I am still learning new techniques and different ways of doing things after more than 44 years of building models, that is the great thing about this board, the willingness of people to share experience and knowledge.ASFC wrote:Yeah-but they all had their variations-even with Phantoms ours still had its British flavour.

Re: Carrier Builders Yard, whats on the Slipway
Here is todays JFK update, it is really starting to take shape now, Today was spent adding more detail to the Island, the island itself has been like a separate model, more than 50 pieces so far. Also cut off all molded on nets and worked on main sponson under the island area, tomorrow will be spent working on elevators(underneath needs building up and leading edges to be correct shape) walkways to be replaced around flightdeck, bridle arrestor for cats 3 and 4 to be added, also a few a/c to be added to hangar deck in readiness for closing it up..

Hiya Ed, The North Carolina kit has her in MS-32/18d so this puts her from approx Sept 1943 till sometime in 1945.

That JFK is coming along nicely
! Yet again I am in awe as to how fast some people work.
Quick Victorious update. I haven't done much, but at least the last RN Gun Carrier now has her Guns on the forward sponson, and the Island is now a Permanent feature.
(Yep I know that V is wrong-it will be fixed!)
As usual, all questions and comments welcomed!

Re: Carrier Builders Yard, whats on the Slipway
Hiya ASFC,
Victorious is looking really great, you have really brought out that Great British look of our Post War Carriers, i didnt realise JFK was coming along so fast, i guess my last 5 carriers had so much scratching to be done that it is just becoming the norm, i am actually doing more on this than the others, especially in the PE dept, at one time i was so looking forward to getting all the 1/720 Carriers completed and get to the less demanding Trumpy carriers, but i am really enjoying cutting and scratching so much.
i am looking forward to more of Victorious as you progress
Happy modeling
John

Hiya Ed,
I have the luxury of not working at the moment, which i am actually starting to like, once i get my documents in the mail, i can look for work, so do i find a job and buy more models, or do i just build my stash ?
