Apparently the 2nd Steregushchiy class project 20380 corvette, Soobrazitelnyy, was launched in Saint Petersburg back in March.

Following comment on page 1 of this thread (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/sh ... alic-Fleet) by The Armenian is interesting in that early videos of the Stereguschy corvette (Project 20380) showed a VLS system vice KASHTAN. This would make sense as KASHTAN is hardly approporiate in the Stealth context. For Dave Wooley - you may be able to save yourself a headache or two!!!!

The one that was launched today is the SOOBRAZITELNY. It is said to be different from the first unit by having the KASHTAN gun-missile system (aft of the main gun) replaced by a new SAM system (9M96) with vertical launch and active homing radar."

STEREGUSHY will look even better with a VLS forward!

For me it has to be with the Kashtan as in the model above as the pictures show this in detail . I like to put myself through the modelling mill and build that weapons system anyway . Still in deep though regarding scale I just like 1:100 but ?

Like you Dave, I too am a masochist and will do a KASHTAN as well as a VLS -interchangeable. Will see if I can get a still off the original video and post it.

You MUST do 1/72 - this ship is small enough!!

A friend pointed out his site which has a quite good 3D model of STEREGUSCHY. http://gunpoint-3d.com/model-strgu.html

This pic shows the quailty of the model. Anyone had any experience with this? May be one way of getting hull sections.

If you look at the shadows of that 3D model hull his frames aren't exactly accurate either. I think in the 3D model there's too much curve in his forward frames. Stereguchiy has pretty straight frames near the bow.
Curves generate more radar return after all.

1/100 gives more freedom considering the frames aren't likely to be 100% accurate after all. If you're confident in the frame shape then 1/72 would make a nice size of course. You'll need a lot of detail pictures for that scale though.

Good point about the shadows esp at the bow. I have been tinkering with working out the bow sections from photographs and finding it hard to determine if there is not a slight flare (perhaps to slow down spray generation?). In the end its all a compromise (look at KASHTAN on a Stealth ship for a start!!). Your point about scale is quite correct - thats why I am hanging off until end of this year in the hope that somewhere/ somehow some useful sections will become available for my 1/72 model - besides being in TF72 its 1/72 or nothing. The bow is the potentially the most difficult as you have identified. Regarding numbers of pictures I have an incredible number of excellent STER shots from the web so I see few difficulties with the exception of the bow area, the stern around the skeg and inside the bridge wings.

I'll certainly stick with 1:96 as my set of drawings are to that scale. But there are a number of areas that need some clarification but like yourself I have a good number of useful photos , alas never enough . The area inboard of the breakwater remains rather unclear. I know there is a hatch slightly over to starboard but what are the fittings around that area?.
