Hi guys,
I was on board the INS Mumbai when she lay at anchor in Cape Town in 2006. I would also like to build her one day but I don't think that a scratch build of that size is in my league yet, I will just wait and hope that perhaps someone might even offer a kit of her class someday. Here are a few pictures:

Received the Dreammodel 1/700 resin Type 052 DDG kit that briefly appeared on the forum and was available via ebay. (The same company also do 1/72 PLAAF aircraft tugs on ebay, so i knew they were OK)

It was well packed to protect it in the post and initial inspection reveals it to be a very nice model, the detail in crisp and no moulding defects at first glance (not inspected each part closely as yet).

Hopefully these will become more readily available and we might see some of the other PLAN vessels appear from this manufacturer if this kit is anything to go by.

There is a kit of the Delhi class available, however it is in a larger scale, 1:72

APS Models of Australia offer a fairly complete semi-kit of the class, fireglass and resin.

They also offer semi-kits of the Godivari, Kora and Veer classes.

I have got the Dream Model's Type 052B and 052C destroyer kits and the Type 054A frigate kit - they are very nice. I hope they will release additional kits of modern Chinese destroyers - Trumpeter will obviously not release their 1/350 kits of modern warships also in 1/700...

In regard of Indian ships: Korbu Hiryu offers the Indian frigates Godavari F20 and Khukri F49 in 1/700

Korbu Hiryu has also the Chinese frigates Changde, Jinhua, Jiujiang, Xiamen, Yibin, and Zigong in 1/700.

For those interested in larger scales Alan Pew from OZ is building a INS Mumbai at 1;172 whether he will be offering this as a semi kit to add to his ever expanding range of INS warships I don't know as yet.

Dave, I was looking over Allan's Mumbai a few weeks back and it looking very, very nice.

The Kit is available and has been for some months. It's a quite comprehensive kit and will appeal to any fans of the class who want a larger scale model.

I will post some shots of it when it next appears in public.

Regards

Mike

Allan says its still not finished and he has a pile of work to do, but even in this supposed 'incomplete' stage his modelling skills drive me to despair.

Good evening David,

Allan sends his regards.

Mumbai was voted the best model of the 2010 Task Force 72 annual regatta, a deserved honour.

I would be also interested to know, if there are plans available - and which were used for this superb model.

Mumbai's builder, Alan Pew, runs APS Models here in Australia and APS sells the hull, plans and fittings.

All are in 1:72.

You can contact him via apsmods at bigpond, com

Hi Mike what can I say. Allan's Mumbai is magnificent on the display table but in the water, for the first time ever words fail me and that's a first! I have great admiration for Allan’s work, it is in a league of its own. I have been over the Mumbai and I was impressed with the ship then now seeing Allan's model on the water , pure magic, thanks for posting those stunning on the water shots . :worship_1: :worship_1: :worship_1: :cool_1: Give my regards to Allan
