I guess that the shields of Akitsushima's 6 in guns could have been similar to the one of USS Charleston (?) in your picture. But rear was probably not as round as in the case of the American ships, but more similar to this shield:

OkI have started some serious research today and I am not done yet
The highest resolution photos of Akitsushima that I have come across so far are those: http://dic.academic.ru/pictures/wiki/fi ... n_Kobe.jpg and http://dic.academic.ru/pictures/wiki/fi ... n_1897.jpg. Judging from those photos I think that shields for Akitsushima's 12 pounder QF guns look to me like an enlarged version of 3 pounder gun shields like this one from Shikishima:

6 inch gun shields are less visible and I am still unsure about their shape but have you noticed that side view of the 6inch gun can be seen in this photo download/file.php?id=47561&mode=view from peppe's post?

Peppe, almost all (if not all) Japanese battleships, armored cruisers and many protected cruisers did have their 6 inchers shielded by Elswick or Armstrong type shield which are so similar they they would look identical in 1/700. However, looking at all the photos of Akitsushima, I don't see the upward angling part of the shield roof which was a feature in both Elswick and Armstrong shields. 12 pounder gun shields lack this feature as well and, since this part of the shield wasn't hinged and couldn't be folded or unfolded, I don't think that Akitsushima's gun shields were neither standard Elswick nor Armstrong.

Looking at all those photos and this drawing from your post: download/file.php?id=47565&mode=view I think that maxim's idea looks better and better
