I was rather surprised to see that you stuck the veneer onto to the paint. I would be a bit concerned that due to changing humidty the veneer starts warping and come off. How did you sand it down and varnish it without spoiling the surrounding paintwork ?

I have been concentrating on painting various fittings in the wheelhouse and the black areas on the superstructure. Also I have been wiring the LED lights in the mast and routing the wires inside the superstructure.

Lighting

With all the LED lights fitted and the wires routed around the inside of the superstructure all that was left to do was to solder each one to the 6v battery/resistor module I had made. Using a 15W soldering iron each wire was soldered in place ensuring the correct polarity was maintained. Finally all the soldered joints where covered with two part epoxy glue to ensure that the joints would not be effected by any moisture.

Hi Tiny Just catching up with your build. Lighting for models is one of those tasks where there is a thin line between being just right or over the top. You have that ability of getting things just right . Excellent work throughout.

Ballasting

Time to fill the internal testing tank or bath to everyone and ballast out the boat. First I put the hull in the water and placed the steam plant inside with the boiler filled with water. Now I could add weight using cast metal sticks each weighing 225g (8oz) each and place them inside triming up the hull so it sat correctly on the water. With the steam plant in place I added 8 sticks in total, which is 1800g almost 4lbs.

Next I removed the steam plant and inserted the electric module, which is lighter, so had to add an additional 4 sticks increasing the ballast to 2700g (6lbs Approx.) I permenately glued the ballast in for when I use the steam plant and left the extra weights loose so they can be easily placed inside when using thew electric module.

Been following all along, but haven't said anything up till now I guess.
Great build, it's "sharpness" is astonishing. Love that boiler system as well!

You are correct Jim, down near the river it was like a force 8 gail, the steam from the boiler could hardly be seen, it was blown away very fast from the funnel, she did sail well and all credit to Tiny's build. :woo_hoo: :woo_hoo: :thumbs_up_1:

I haven't posted for a while but on Saturday (25th August 2012) I spent the day at Chatham Dockyard with the "Friends of TID164" and Mike Toms showed me around their TID tug and I would like to thank them for their hospitality and guided tour. It was a great opportunity to meet the people who keep this little vessel going and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was so impressed with their efforts I presented them with a copy of my book on the build of my model. They loved the book and it now sits in the mess for all to read. Keep up the good work and I hope to see her in full steam very soon.
