NavyField II is the 3D and much-upgraded follow-on to NavyField (I), for which we have a forum in the Gaming section below. It seems that the NFII developers have come to an agreement with Pit-Road to repackage pairs of their old kits for promotional purposes.

What Will the Holidays Bring?
I'm speculating that we will see very little in the way of new WW 1 and 2 and modern surface ship items. I discount variations on a theme such as the 1916 Warspite and the continuing releases of very expensive IJN subjects such as the CVLs. Maybe the "beehive" Enterprise will show up and the 200 scale Bismarck but I'm fearful there will be little else seen. Think about the timing - September would be the month to wet our appetites with announcements and CAD details and maybe some test shots. October then is for production and displaying the fully executed models. Distribution to the sellers is by Thanksgiving so we can "lobby" to get them on the "list". I hope I'm wrong but how long has the Pennsylvania been out there and where is the Atlanta? The rumor mill is just too silent.

The instruction sheet of RMS Titanic 1/700 can be viewed on Revell-Germany now. For me, this looks like a fine kit. Sadly enough, the waterline option is not available.

I brought up the Revell Titanic 1/700 direction sheet PDF. It does not appear to be a re-pop of the Academy kit which I have. Titanic is a popular ship but why make another one? Oh well, The 1/700 brass set I made for the Academy kit will probably work fine on this one as well!

Trumpeter's Big 5 (or 4) as in 1941
With the California now listed on their web site along with the other 3 Colorados (and the Tennessee rumored) is their any good intelligence as to how we will see then outfitted? The Californias had full cage masts at PH so if the Tennessee is in cards she could be as rigged in early 42 before the big refit. As I recall all the Colorados had full cage masts at PH. I hope we will see more than just main turret replacements.

Trumpeter/Stevens Int "Big 5"
Robin - Go to their site (upper right corner of the main page) and then click on plastic models then scroll down to Trumpeter. The kit numbers are 5768, 69,71 and 83 all noted as 1941. No price or release dates given. As far as I know this is the first "formal" acknowledgement by Trumpeter of these 700 scale kits.

Steve,
Thanks! I just hope they really do come out with all 5. The hulls of all 5 where very similar with the California and Tennessee having 12 14"/50 cal vs. the 8 16"/45 of the Colorado class being the biggest different.

If they're all 1941 (i.e. Pearl Harbor attack) fit, some had hull bulges and some didn't. I hope they pick up on this distinction. (It should be simple enough to add or remove in a waterline build as I prefer, but a pain for those who prefer full-hull.) I recall that the Jean Bart kit lacked bulges - but was it otherwise identical to the Richelieu kit's hull? Now, I think they did have a different hull for the Roma than her sister ships. So I'd say it's just as likely as unlikely.Robin wrote:Steve,

As the Pearl Harbor fleet goes, who'd've thought we'd see the cage masted ships in plastic before the Nevada and Oklahoma? (Come on, some manufacturer out there has got to see this niche!

Seems like Trumpeter is more willing to fill that niche than some of the other companies out there now. I've always wanted the Big 5 in plastic. As the Pearl Harbor fleet goes, who'd've thought we'd see the cage masted ships in plastic before the Nevada and Oklahoma? Couple of interesting new 1/350 in HobbySearch site:
IJN Isuzu (AA-cruiser version) from Aoshima:
http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10198701
Plus couple of photoetch sets.
And IJN Heian Maru from Hasegawa:
http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10198901
There was a really interesting article on ModelArts Special 45 on converting Hikawa Maru
to Heian Maru. I was already considering doing the same, but (again) got no futher than
thinking about it.
On HobbySearch there is 1/700 new IJN stuff also, but I've no idea if they repops or
something new.
