okay this part i did yesterday to redraw the carton hull shape to the wood , the wood i am using here is 3mm commercial ply which is 2.5mm actually , the piece i am using here is 1M long by 400mm wide . Now that i think about it , that pic shows the most used tools for building a model ? ? :shipcaptain:

Hello Diederick 44 great start , question what is the thickness of the timber for your keel ? How do you intend to join the two sections of hull ?

Hello Diederick.

For RC it'll be wise to cut out/hollow out the frames since you'll have to put ballast and RC gear inside. Try to keep them continuous though, for example around the keel, better to keep around 1cm on each side, making a small bridge around the keel, otherwise the frame can twist while putting it in place.
The keel of Chaconia exists of a triple 8mm ply. Perhaps a little overkill, but depending on the size of the ship, I guess a 8mm keel would be nearly the minimum. Depends also on what your eventual hull structure will be, if you'll plank the frames with wood, if you'll add fibreglass over that etc. If you have decided which way to build your hull, please let us know, you'll get more and better help that way :heh:

Good luck!

Hi Diederick,

1:113 is quite a unique scale. Have you ever thought of building in 1:100 which is quite common for DKM models? You will find a lot of bits and pieces for DKM-ships in 1:100 fon instance here: http://www.shopssl.de/epages/es119126.sf/de_DE/?ObjectPath=/Shops/es119126_MZ-Modellbau.

Best wishes
Lars

ahoy lars :shipcaptain: well i picked a odd scale because people usually build things in 1:100 and so on . Leipzig is a very unique ship to me so the scale i wanted should have been very unique and thats how i decided on 1:113 just to add some flavour to the site and something new , the build itself is experimental

Hi Diederick,

I think you have to be registered for this forum, but they show quite a few photos which might be helpful for you:
http://benjaminweinert.de/fma/index.php/topic,15490.msg179104.html#msg179104

There's even a kit of Leipzig - unfortunately pretty expensive:

Best wishes
Lars

i have decided on a glass fibre hull , less fuss and just as much fun plus low maintenance , is there a better replacement for resin ? ? Because resin is a pain to work off and to flatten
