Impressive. Don't forget to paint your turret tops to match the BATDIV the ships were in...

You can't tell the colors from black and white photos, but in the final posted photo above, you can see some turret tops are much lighter than the rest of the ship. And there is recent documentation that turret tops were painted different colors for the battleship divisions (Arizona had red on #1,2, and 4 turrets) to identify them for their spotting aircraft during gunnery trials. Of course, that probably also helped Japanese bombardiers to identify their targets. :wave_1:

yes, from the picture and can't see every ship turret top color, I would go to improve through the text information about them, as you said turret top color can be a marker of the Japanese navy. :wave_1:

Well biggles, that may be a possibility, but I am skeptical about whether or not the Japanese had obtained that particular bit of information. The United States Navy was always proud of its battlewagons, but beyond a few publicity pictures and appearances in newsreels, why on Earth would they let civilians know the specifics of turret top identification colors? As has been stated in this thread, they weren't rediscovered until relatively recently.

The Japanese intelligence apparatus just wasn't that good.

The Japanese spies and agents seemed to have been very diligent, photographing and making sketches of where which ships were moored. From the hills surrounding Pearl Harbour, they had a clear view of the harbor. Nothing could be kept very secret! When they knew the location of each ship they could also make note of the color codes of the turrets. :wave_1: And...a good prostitute can get any info out of a horny sailor!

California's turret top is clearly white in this photo.

Pennysvlania's forward turret tops are white in this photo.

You can see, in this November 1941 photo, that many of the battleships turret tops are not the same color as the hull.

Cropped view of above photo:
