The Little White Fleet refers to the three white USN USS Barnegat AVP-10 Class seaplane tenders that rotated duty as the flagship for Commander Middle East Forces in the 1950's through the 1970's; USS Duxbury Bay AVP-38, USS Greenwich Bay AVP-41, USS Valcour AVP-55.

My 1/350 diorama will depict all three at Pier 2 in Norfolk's Navy Operations Base in 1953. I started with creating the warehouse and dock which is now a resin model kit from Back-Aft Models.

I plan to incorporate this YC barge from Battlefleet Models in the diorama. It'll be YC-773.

Image

USS Hatak YTB-219 was at Norfolk in 1953 and I found a photo of her assisting the USS Greenwich Bay AVP-41 in a cruise book for the GB.

Image

I'm using the Alliance Modelworks Woban Class Tug for the YTB-219.....

Image

Image

I created a large garbage dumpster for the diorama, too. This and another, smaller dumpster will be available from Back-Aft Models, soon.

What scale is this? It looks like 1/350 but you don't say...

Anyway, this looks like awesome work, man! Can't wait to watch it all come together (I have a fondness for ship dioramas)!

I also wonder about the size.
1:700 would let me give away all my 1:700-models. I'd never ever reach that quality.
Even 1:350 would make me fall on my knees.
Anyway it's a wondeful scene and I'm courious about the things to come.

Thanks, Carl!

BTW, did you ever finish that last diorama you were working on?

Looking quite good, Carl!

I just wish I had the patients to do that kind of surgery... :wave_1:

YTB-219 is all done.....

Image

Image

I used my new Back-Aft Models Yard Craft Decals for both the tug and this YC barge......

Image

They are 1/350 but, the 1/700 3ft decals fit the best on these models.

Love that tug. Pretty small, yet realistic look.
Love the rest as well of course, nice little dio with rather unique/rare ships. :woo_hoo:
