This is one of the best things about our hobby. I enjoyed building a lot of these kits years ago when I was young and now I enjoy building them with all the extra things we can add to them. Taking an inexpensive older kit and using these upgrades and PE to turn them into highly detailed showpieces is awesome. I like the newer kits with all the improved details but I just love the nostalgia of these old kits.

A fine looking special piece. The RUDDEROW or JOHN C. BUTLER modelers will also need a cut down bridge and stack to make those classes from a BUCKLEY as well as some odds and ends. But those modeling EDSALLs, or CANNONs would only need a different stack and some other odds and ends when starting with a BUCKLEY kit. Some modelers might be able to squeeze the shorter EVARTS class out of the BUCKLEY kit as well. And a stack would be child's play for one who has done mighty ships such as you have done. I'm jes sayin'.

Anyway, I'm glad you're looking at DEs as well - these six classes had much in common though they lacked the glamor of the FLETCHERs and the follow-on "improved FLETCHERs" (SUMNERs, GEARINGS).

A 1/350 scale Fletcher a bit too small? 5"/38 single mounts, in both heavyweight and lightweight types, are now available for the classic Revell 1/301 scale Fletcher class destroyers. Of course, these mounts are available in many popular scales. "Square bridge" pilot houses and a square bridge deck are also available.
