Not I, said the little red hen.

Photos can be misleading but, I don't see where these offer more than the more recent injection versions.

Niko apparently chose not to provide an "as finished" photo, leaving you to ponder on the sprues.
One thing.....it appears that the center pivots on the barrel assembly allow for adjusting the elevation. Perhaps desirable for some.

Dan how is the size of the fine molds ones? I have the Pit Road ones and i believe they are a bit over sized. The detailis nice and probably the best bang for the buck considering what else you get.

Well, the PitRoad versions are a little larger than the FineMolds versions. For the base mount, not including the barrels, I'd guestimate 5-10% larger. This is similar to the differences in their respective 25mm mounts but, it bothers me less here. I agree that the PitRoad versions are probably the most cost effective versions.

So, sirpaul, I thought you were moving on to 1/350?

One information please, guys...

Anyone has those from Ocean Spirit with resin and metal barrels? I don't have access to a drill right now and would like to know if the resin parts are already drilled to take the barrels or not.

Cheers!

Here is a view of various injection 12.7cm AA mounts from the same ModelGraphix volume on sets covered in the other IJN accessory thread. Unlabeled at the upper right top of the page is what I believe to be the W/L Heavy Ordinance set version.

I haven't translated all the Fujimi versions:

A) Fujimi
B) Fujimi
C) Aoshima Soryu kit
D) Fujimi
E) Fujimi
F) PitRoad NE01 set
G) Fujimi? with brass barrels
H) NE01 with Brass barrels
I) Basic NE01

Is it just me, or do the brass barrel additions make the whole mount look kind of silly and incorrectly-dimensioned? Or am I just so used to seeing the mounts with plastic barrels that they look wrong when equipped with unpainted brass?

Late model versions (probably the shields). Cheaper than FM but, not as detailed, IMHO.

Dan...You mention the "shields" on this version. Are you referring to the enlarged housings above the recoil tubes ?
If so, were these a retro-fit part added to the earlier type 89's or a totally different "as built" supplied late war ?

Yes, I'm referring to the housing above the recoil tubes. I believe this to be a late war variant, possibly the B1 shield variant for the aft mount on the Matsu/Tachibana DDs but, I'm not certain of that. I can't recall seeing it in place on any photographed mount.

Interesting, these got me thinking of the early mold Matsu 12.7's also. The barrels on those guns had an unusual over-sized look to them that I had always regarded as a crude and misguided attempt at something like a US style 40mm recoil spring.

The semi-translated HLJ literature refers to quite a few ships associated with these guns, from CV's and BB's to CA's. If this is correct, and these are indeed the latter B1 variant, I would think it opens a can of worms as to when these were refitted on each ship. Perhaps nit-picking to some, but few things say IJN as loud as a type 89.

Hi Guys,

I'm getting back to my 1/700 Hiryu kit and was wondering if these guns are ok for her during the attacks on Darwin in Feb 42.

http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10231086

if not which ones would be good for this time period.

TIA

Brian

When is someone going to produce the 3.9 Type 98 guns as fitted to the Taiho, Oyodo, and Akizuki DD's?
