if don't failure my memory i have this book of Nagato from Gaken
any thing please tell me

aft tower just about complete,still a few little details,this is the second time using an air brush,seems to put paint on o.k. i think i am using to fine a tip ,its a #1 i think next time i will try #5 i am using tamiya acrylic ,thined with alcohol.here's some pics

Hi Russ very impressive and taking shape well . As a matter of interest do the plans give rigging detail for the boat boom or do you have a separate rig plan ?

The earlywar clean look, or the latewar, festooned with those annoying little 25mms, LOL???

The small platform, at the signal yards level, was that a smooth surface, or did it have a tread pattern?

thanks for the comments guys, richard, the rigging blocks are from billings boats which is a line carried by loyalhanna shipyards,they are a little over sized but for normal viewing look fine,hi dave i do have a diagram of the rigging lines, the two top blocks on the tower and the top block on the boom are for the line used for lifting the boom,the brass wheel and lower block on the tower will be the lifting line. tom ,i am trying to model her early 1944,from what i can find so far it seems that somwhere in that time she had 68 -25mm's latter she had 96 mm's,i want to try for the 68 gun number,somewhere i read that with the 68 number there where no single 25 mm's,it is hard to track down the right number of guns because it seems the japanese where adding and taking then off every few months. .and dam it anyways .the platform you are talking about shows a wood deck.i missed it and i don't think i can fit it in the space now,maybe if i lay single planks in i can do it .this is my biggest fear missing a detail that to correct would involve destroying a major built up area.

Oh, sorry russ!!! I thought it would be a steel tread cleats kinda deal.. Easy fix.. If I knew it was a wood deck, I prob wouldn't have said anything... But with the killer work you've already put into that model, I can't imagine you letting that missing detail slide anyway.. I'm sorry to be the guy to bring it up!!!

Yep the number of 25's is a big ??? on Kongo as well.. Differing Info I have says 86, then 101, and now 118..
It seems that between the, battle off Samar and her last trip home, more were added.. Like twin triples mounts on 14inch/#4 turret, and another pair on either side of the Bridgeworks Deck #2... Also, I'm trying to learn which mounts were freewheeling (post and ring sights), and those that were rangefinder/director assisted (optical site settable for range), the ship carried both......!!!! LOL, good luck huh?
You will be running into the same issue, but at a smaller scale, it might pass by as unnoticable.. The difference in gunsites are obvious to the eye, to knowledgable guys about naval history, and model accuracy, it is glaringly obvious!!! Any info, or source for info on this, would be helpfull to anyone building IJN!!!

I know there is tons more info out there, but I can't read but a few Japanese characters... LOL!
So I guess we are all S.O.L.!!!!

hi tom no problem,the more feed back the better,somtimes you can look at somthing for days and not spot a detail.thank you i will be more dilligent. :thumbs_up_1:took 2 hrs fiddling around, not perfect but i will live with it.

book. It's shown on the color fold outs. There are several views of how it should be rigged(?). Is that the right term to use?????

Thats impressive Russ!! i wish i had your skills.. i would've built me this lady long time ago, who knows maybe in 20 years from now my skills will be alot decent BTW, i'm glad you removed the gun tub's wooden floor, what actually goes in there is anti-skid one.

i am working on 6 search light directors and 16 binoculars two differant types,these things are very small even in 1/200 scale,there are 11 parts for the light directors and 7 for the glasses,also to be built are secondary gun directors and things called dumaresq and sokuekiban they are to do with rate of fire and range i think.they are more complicated then the light directors and will be a callange..

Hi Russ I see what you mean , these fittings just get smaller. This is superb very fine detailed work . How many do you have to produce?

these binocullars are extremaly small
a good job to produce these pieces...
i think this small pieces take a great lot of time
considering you building one small piece and thinking about another piece to do
modellers things

You should try one of those Desklite Magnifyers, they work great!!!
I couldn't be in this game without one, cuz I normally can't even see some of the things we work on..
My eyes would have given out, long before now..

thanks for the remarks guys,i am going to look into a desk magnifier,i don't know how the guys do it in 1/700,they must have the patience of god there are 34 spotlight directors,spoting sights,type 94 directors,range rate panels and sokutekibans(what ever they are)the control and secondary gun director deck is going to be cluttered.i also built the two 9m cutter davits, again using brass as styrene is not stiff enough.styrene is great stuff,but when something is built out of brass it has a nice weight to it and is very strong.to bad its so hard to cut,i keep burning my fingers from the heat the dremel cutter produces,to stupid to use pliers to hold it when cutting

Impressive to say the least...

i am in the process of making moulds for the ships small boats,the moulds take a few days to firm up enough to pour castings,in the mean time i made the casement 140mm's,18 of them. i used styrene round tube,10 mm sheet, and strips of brass to make the turrets,the barrels are from g.m.p.

Great job on the optic equipment Russ it amazes me how fast you are going and the details are absolutly amazing.. keep it going full steam ahead mate!!!
