If you simply delete the radar foundation and restore the fore-topmast, you can then paint her in MS-1 for a controversy-free Sep '41 fit. That way, the gun tubs and other splinter screens can stay in place, minimizing the alterations you are required to do.
You will also have to put the range clock on the main mast centerline tripod leg and it may also be on the fore mast just below the .50 cal tub. You may want to check references on the fore mast location though.
The range clocks were removed between late September and early October according to an old photo posted here previously. Therefore there's still a few weeks where you can build the 1/200 kit nearly as-is yet still be certain she was in MS-1.
I just started looking at the turrets in the Banner 1/350 kit , thinking I would fix one up and cast it - but they are mostly crap . I have to take my hat off to any one who has put one of these together successfully , it is the kit from hell

I got the Banner kit in the stash & have been wanting to build her...
If ya lose yer sense of humor...
You've lost everything...
On the Bench:
1/720 Italeri CVN-68 ca 1976/77
1/800 ARii 1/800 CV-59 backdating to 1961 (CVA-59)
1/700Trumpy USS Hornet CV-8 "Doolittle Raiders"
I believe there is a thread in "Work In Progress" with this title! About the same kit! The OP has posted a lot of fixes for this model. I haven't seen it finished yet either.
I am really hoping that once the 1/350 Pen is released by Dragon they will put us out of our misery and release a smart kit of the USS Arizona , please that would be a real hit I think

While that would be nice, it won't happen. The Hobby Boss kit is too inexpensive and as it is accurate enough for the average consumer, Dragon would be stupid to put out a new tooled mold of the Arizona even if it were a very superior kit, it simply would not do well.
Current Builds:
1-350 DKM Z-39
1-350 USS Philippine Sea
I see your point , all the same I think that model builders will cast aside their banner kits for some thing that will actually go together in far less time, there are a lot of us who just can't waste time on a kit when there is a better option. Time is the one thing we are all running out of
have you tried to put a banner kit together ? not that much fun

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if a new accurate 1/350 Arizona came out and was a huge success. From the number of people on this forum alone who have built the other versions numerous times, and have complained about all the inaccuracies and outright errors on all of them, including the new 1/200 Trumpeter, I would think that an accurate version, with all the needed corrections documented here and on other forums, would be a best seller! The Revell model is still made because it still sells enough to make a profit for Revell. An accurate version, if it was not priced entirely out of sight, would also sell well. It would not even need to be super-detailed. Just enough detail to suit a beginner, yet have all the right dimensions as shown on the original 1929 Re-build plans. Including the proper hull shapes, the right Boat Deck length, the correct turret spacing, the right superstructure, etc..... Then have detail sets available from the manufacturer and/or third party vendors for those who do want to super detail their model. Much of the current 1/350 PE would probably be usable. I know I would buy a couple that I knew I would not have to spend 50% of my time re-building and modifying.
I too would personally love a newly tooled 1-350 Arizona, but the only company that I can think of that would do it would be Trumpeter and even then it would likely be a scaled down and slightly modified version of their 1-200 Arizona. Speaking of which, I wonder what ever happened to Lingberg's projected 1-144 Arizona; and their 1-200 GZ

I recived the Hobby Boss 1/700 USS Arizona as a gift and I was taken back a bit by the kit. I enjoy scratch building and I'm a firm beliver of no such thing as a bad model. Some just need a bit more care. I have another project on the bench right now and will be starting the Arizona in about a mounth. I'm not going to go out and get the Dragon kit and can this one. I do enjoy the challange.
So this is what I have so far.
1. USS Arizona kit
2. PE set from TMW for the kit and should work. It lists the Mini Hobby kit for the PE, but if you take a good look at both kits, they are the same tooling.
What else do you guys think I need? I have a great work shop and all the needed tools and paint (I don't airbrush at all, Rattle cans and detail brushes and I'm fine with it)
I did notice a bit of a lip around the main deck. Should that be sanded off or is it OK to use that as a reffernce for the side rails. They will sit to high if you put them right on top of that ridge. I do know the plastic railings around the gun shields need to be removed.
Any help would be great.

I beleive that Dragon would be in the best position to do it seeing they are releasing the Pen , they could make a set of extra sprues and use the same hull mold, with some small exchangable die inserts where they differ. ?

Is there are review/comparison of tthe PE sets available for the 1/200 Arizona? I have seen sets from Trumpeter, WEM and MK1 models, and I am trying to find out whnich might be the best.
