Oriskany's flight deck is almost finished, I'll post pics soon. I'm closing up the hull now and am going to try and get the "Hurricane" bow done soon. I've decided to scratchbuild the entire Island after beginning to chop up the Hasegawa pieces and realizing that they are too far off even for this large amount of work. She's looking better every day!

It is always good when you see a model start to transform into what you want, hope to see her soon, sounds like you are enjoying the build which is what this hobby is all about, i love the research and the conversions, even if it causes lots of head bashing and use of the F word. all good fun.

Happy modeling

John,

What kit did you start out with for your Coral Sea, or did you scratchbuild the entire ship?

Hi there,
It was converted from the ARII 1/800 USS Midway, which can be seen earlier in the post.

Hiya gtb, i am sure he is, i hope lots of the guys are enjoying and finding them useful, i should have started my own Ship CD business :heh: but i actually get more enjoyment posting them for all to see free, after all, it only cost me the price of a film and developing and some of my time, which i enjoyed anyway. to come in the Future is USS John F Kennedy from her visit to Portsmouth in July 1996, i found my slides, just need to get them made into pics first, also to come are pics taken onboard USS Kitty Hawk 1997 and USS John F Kennedy 2000 during my visits, showing flightdeck ops and lots of a/c.

anyways hows the Dio coming on ?

Happy modeling

The sub's done, but I think I have to cut the hull a little more. The DDG is 95% done still have to laid out the helio lines at the stern and bow.And also the gun and harpoon tubes. The F-18F look nicer than the E's ,maybe change them all to the F version. Fighting a ear infection in both ears, will paint tomorrow and lay out the Celluclay on top after drying. :wave_1:

Hiya gtb, I hope your ears are better soon, Dio is coming on great, as for the F-18's its your model, a little artistic licence is allowed in my eyes.

I look forward to seeing more.

Here's my Oriskany as she stands today. The flightdeck is almost complete, despite an accident that cracked the area around the aft 5-inch gun mounts. Needless to say, this occured when said mounts were being removed. You can see the sheet styrene used to repair it. I'll post more when I can. Enjoy! :thumbs_up_1:

Hi Avery, looks like a great start, i cannot remember the last time i actually made a model without some sheet or strip styrene being involved, and the near future involves more, as i still have 4 hangar decks to do.

anyways good luck and happy modeling, looking forward to seeing more as you progress.

Hi Jason, are you thinking of scaling it up to 1/350 ? it sure would be a very impressive conversion.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the comments. Jason, I'm using the old Hasegawa Hancock kit. Since most of the detail is being removed anyways, it's a good place to start. The plans I'm using come from a Russian website, I don't have the link at the moment. I can e-mail the plans to you, as the russian site is a little slow. It's a gold mine of free plans though and I use it quite often.
