Re: Calling all French Pre-Dreadnought fans
Guys, there is a picture of Danton class with Black hull, white and red boot topping, green antifouling paint, and grey-buff superstructures. Were they EVER painted that way?

Excellent tip about the book- it may be in French but I'm sure I can cope with 392 photographs (:

Re: Calling all French Pre-Dreadnought fans
Question on the lower hull paint of following:
Hoche and Turenne.
Hoche was an ironclad, so - likely painted. Turenne was a wooden ironclad - so likely coppered bottom or perhaps also painted?
I am between these colors on HOCHE:
1) White boot topping + red lower hull
2) White thin boot topping, thicker stilll red boot topping, and green lower hull
For Turenne, all paitings show her as red lower hull so
1) Red painted lower hull, no boot topping
2) Copper painted lower hull, no boot topping.
I recall people say French Navy clearly went away from green lower hull to red lower hulls (unlike Italians on capital ships). When did this happpen?
Thanks for looking!
