Robin, as for the Coontz class, it is a conversion from the 1/600 Airfix FGS Rommel, it is almost spot on dimensions wise for the Coontz class, i have used parts from a 1/700 CFA, Styrene and weapons from Pitroad/DML/Revell.
if you wait a little while NIKO have a Coontz under development, Nektarios has me believing that whatever i scratch someone comes along and produces it, it seems to be working.

John,

Thanks! I'll wait. I have plenty of other kits to build first, but I did love serving on that class of ship.

John

I have seen the very excellent photo's of you. Thanks it gives me a lot of help when building the USS Nimitz

I see that you took a walk around and on a photo I saw two tankers alongside one of them was orange painted tanker can you remember which name the tanker had??

The reason is I am a Dutch living in the Belgium Ardennes My father was at sea during the war for the alliance forces and was in the welknown Murmansk convoy later he was the first captain on the first tanker of a company in Holland.

Their tankers are all oranhe painted and I remember this type of tankers which they have. But they have around 8 of this type If you could help me please do so You will do me a big favour

Thanks and regards

Well i finally made it here despite Delta airlines trying thier best to stop me, cut along story short, after paying best part of $1,600 and 16 hours of travelling the connection from Cincinnati was overbooked, Hmmmn 110 booked onto a 100 seat a/c. anyways initial inspection seems to show all carriers arrived safely.
Tom my Cimmaron is here, great service thanks mate.

Hi Guys,
I found these at a Michaels Hobby and Craft store in Lexington SC, with a little work they should also work for my 1/700 carriers.

Hi there,
Well i am back in the UK now, seeing as all my on the slipway carriers are in the USA i started on my USS Constellation CV-64, here are the first pics of my start, you will see straight away the many areas needed to be worked on to correct the Italeri/Revell kit into a Connie, most of these are also required for a Kitty Hawk, the easiest build from the Italeri/Revell trio of Connie, Kitty Hawk and America is by far the America, Connie and Kitty had more squarish features as will be seen as my build progresses.

Here is another update on Connie, gaps left by reshaping have been filled with styrene and await application of filler, the center bow anchor position has been filled(only applies to JFK and America), port CIWS sponson has been reshaped and hangar doorways have been added from sheet and strip styrene.

1/542 Forrestal

Here is my build in progress of USS Forrestal as she appeared around 1978, prior to installation of CIWS:

Hangar Deck (very basic - nobody will ever see it):

So far, I have filled all of the holes and gaps in the hull, I have sanded off the piping on both sides of the bow, and opened up the hangar doors. I also removed all of the molded-on railings. I am trying to decide on the best way to tackle the oval-shaped openings towards the stern on both sides. Obviously I will add railings, but what should be inside of that area? None of my photos give a good view in that area. Hope you like.

Forestal looks nice :thumbs_up_1:

I'll have my Oriskany back on the bench soon. It's pretty crowded right now and I have a project that needs my FULL attention, can't screw up or I'll have to start over....so maybe a week or so and I'll have something to report. Next up is scratchbuilding the hull sponsons (now that I have good detail photos) :thumbs_up_1:

Hey JG, Forrestal is looking great, best thing about doing CV's is that every one has so many different features, the 1/540 or 1/600 Forrestal kit is still available with the forward sponsons which would make a great Ranger.

Avery i look forward to seeing more of your Oriskany.

Happy modeling

Just waiting for glue to dry so i can paint the hangar.

I have another Forrestal-class kit (boxed as Independence) in the older form which I plan on doing as an older version. Not sure which one yet. Thanks for the compliment.

Here is the latest, i decided to add the main sponsons and overhangs prior to attaching the flightdeck, i also removed the crane position from the aft starboard sponson, the overhangs are as follows, fwd stbd is modifed from kit, main overhang which sits below the island is modified from a Forrestal kit and the port flightdeck support sponson is from a Nimitz, i still have a support sponson to build for the re-sited crane and a few other smaller sponsons.....
