Dear Boys and Girls, just wondering; would any of you know if an aftermarket manufacturer has released replacement turned brass barrels for the 12"/305mm, 9.4"/240mm and 3"/75mm for Combrig's kits in both 1/700 and 1/350 scales please?
A change of subject but I recently bought the Comberg Danton with the intent to model her as Condorcet 1940-42 at Toulon. I bought the Dumas book on 18,000 ton semidreadnoughts, and while it is a great book, it only shows three pictures of the ship at the time of the fleet scuttling. I was hoping for plans from this time period, as previous books in this series have diagrams of ships as they were refitted. I know she had just the forward funnel and all secondary guns removed at this time but I was wanting a little more detail. I assume her decks were bare steel, not linoleum, and a lot of equipment was removed, searchlights, rangefinders, etc. Anyone know were I might find more information?

Any difference between them? I don't understand why Trumps prefers to produce the similar sister ships
Yes sirmaumau, there are differences between them. Vergniaud had a different, simpler funnel cap design. All had different engine room ventilator cowls/covers/intakes designs. The other main differences are limited to crane jib design, team pipe height and blast bag length on the main & secondary turrets. Mirabeau had differing funnel diameters (documented). Otherwise they were all very similar and homogenous. Diderot had the shortest steam pipes, Voltaire had solid crane jibs, Condorcet & Mirabeau had lattice crane jibs, Condorcet had tall steam pipes, Danton & Voltaire had longer blast bags......
I just aquired the Hobby Boss Danton kit. Has anyone taken a look at the color call outs in the instructions for accuracy? I admittedly know NOTHING about the class, but the gray they have listed seems a bit dark compared to paintings and photos. Also, the deck linoleum seems a bit too brown.

Hullo! I bought the Hobby Boss 1/350 Voltaire and am trying to work out which paints I need. It seems there is a lot of confusion as to what colours the Danton class had. I know I am dreadfully confused and it makes me in uncomfortable, because I want to get started on the model right away but I want the colours to be accurate.
HULL
Hobby Boss painting instructions suggest either red or green antifouling can be used. I want to go with green, as that was recommended as being used in all French warships from 1890 to WW1 (by artists on Ship Bucket). It is apparently a vibrant shade of green such as THIS.
The waterline in the kit is depicted as black, but others have said it is red (with the green antifouling), or none at all.
As for the hull and accompanying superstructure there is debate about what shade of grey is used. It is hard to tell from old photos due to lighting and angle making it look both dark and light. The kit instructions suggest a darkish grey. Others have said it is lighter grey, white or even blue-grey (gris bleu).
DECK
Probably the biggest drama of all. On this thread alone it has been suggested that the deck was solid grey, dark brown or the original light sand colour that is normally painted on warship models.
OTHER
The main gun turrets and barrels were apparently painted black in wartime. But for a pre-1914 depiction, they'd be the same grey as the rest of the upper hull.
Please chime in with your own thoughts. This thread should get a bit busier seeing as Hobby Boss has 3 Danton-class models now. And if anybody has that book Les Cuirasss de 18 000t it would be much appreciated if you could share some scans or photos. Not everyone on the opposite side of the world to France can afford to order that book.
Get the book, it has the answers to most of your question + many more. If you know Know someone who can translate French it has a section on painting of the ships. Pre war and early WWI, upper works were Gris blu, dark blue grey, from about 1915 on Gris Claire, light grey. Decks were steel with linoleum on weather decks. Hull bottoms depended on the shipyard they were last painted in. Not much more specific than that. Most of the photos show the ships dark.
Hi Dan. Unfortunately the book + shipping to Australia is over half my living wage as a full time student per week. So that won't be happening.
Caravellarella suggested that the deck is a kind of red/brown linoleum. I have since chosen a Tamiya spray paint that should suit this. TS69. Link to examples of the paint: https://www.google.com.au/search?q=tami ... 12&bih=604
I plan to paint the foredeck dark grey. That is correct isn't it?
You're one of many to also suggest Gris blue for the hull. I'm having trouble visualising this. Would you be able to show me this colour?
Colorcoats suggests using their KM12, which is the Norwegian bluegrey of the Kriegsmarine. This is very dark, I would either lighten it or use Lifecolor 507A from their new Royal Navy vol I set. I'll have to get back to you on the boats?
