My only complaint is that there is a small casting flaw near the stern that almost looks like mold mis-alignment. A few swipes with sandpaper should take care of it, though.

Does anybody have any information, either from plans or pictures, regarding how the torpedo nets were stowed on the 1914 Sevastopol -or any Russian dreadnought for that matter? Was there a shelf they rested on or something like it? I cannot find anything in my references (the Sevastopol Class Battleships and Imperial Russian Battleships books), while none of the pictures I have seen show that area clearly.

I note that several MW members (hello Jim B !) have built impressive Imperial Russian dreadnought models in 1/700, but I have to admit I have some reservations about how the stowed torpedo nets have been depicted, as I cannot understand the logic of how they would have been actually deployed from the positions shown. Moreover, what may look great in 1/700 does not necessarily translate to 1/350....

because building Zvezda kit of Sevastopol now, I'm a little bit unsure at 1 point when looking pictures of her here and elsewhere, also some drawings of Gangut class I have:

Were in WW-1 version of 1914/ 1915 guns installed on roof of main turrets or not?
Sorry to ask this, but I saw now pictures looking like Gangut class of WW-1 with and without guns on the turret roofs ... and this makes me unsure at least.

Still working on boardsides of ship with the PE orgy to do there ... but looking forward for later, a question about rigging:

I still searched here and in www for photos (including narod.ru of course), but there are no real good photos of original or models showing WW-1 fitting as Zvezda kit is about rigging ...
So my question, does anyone know any good link or source where I can see the complete rigging of Sevastopol in WW-1, means wherw all run cables from where to where and so on?

Unfortunately I found such pictures only for later version after re-builded with new forward funnel and new bridge, but particularly the new bridge makes it useless to take over for earlier version of ship which I have / want to build.

I will only report that problem about rigging of Gangut class ships is for the first solved. I got a tipp from a colleague from France that there is Gangut class as papership modell in scale 1/200 available.

I think people building Zvezda kit of Sevatopol as I do will have same question, so here a link, showing named 1/200 paper modell with good pictures of rigging itself at WW-1 version.

Good morning (German time ),

building a ship model without having a half libary about, let raise sometimes questions as now, when particularly pictures in www show something "strange".
Looking closer on this picture given / shown by mermaid on page, we have a color photp of a late Soviet Gangut class in harbour, I guess it is the "Marat" and looking far closer on it at waterline, I become unsure about hull color. For me it looks here like a red waterline and undership in green color insteed hull red, as we know from several Russian ships they had.



So my question is now, are there any records about hull color of Sevastopol in WW-1?
Zvezda tells that hull red, but is this correct?

The ship you are talking about has (most likely) black boot-topping (waterline) and red hull bottom http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthrea ... 282&page=5 check 4th photo from the bottom of the page. And yes, Sevastopol did have red hull bottom.

thank you for the first, but what I mean is this photo:

But I saw now that photo was in origin black/white and digitlas colorized = not much worth as source. But you can see here why I became sceptic when looking on waterline and particularly on small area above water level ... white line, then red and then green if no reflection of water. However, as told, photo is not much worth

I must ask again a question, because I'm a little bit sceptic about what Zvezda tells etc.

There is at stern on boardsides a nameplate with "Sevastopol" in cyrillic letters. From Zvezda it is a golden Decals, from Pontos is a PE nameplate. In which colors should letters be painted, gold or black ... also the plate itself in grey color as rest or in other color?

Also eagle on stern is at Zvezda a golden decal, but here I will try to paint PE eagle from Pontos in full color with black, golden feets and beacks, silver crown etc.

I also have a couple of questions for the experts: looking at the pictures of the early life of the battleships (1914-17), both in this thread and in the two references I have (Steven Mclaughlin's "Russian & Soviet Battleships" and Maciej S. Sobanski's "The Russian battleships Sevastopol class") I note funnel identification stripes. Does anybody know the specific stripes (width/colour) that identified each battleship? Moreover, in their initial fit (which if I understand correctly did not change during the war), were there differences between the ships?

Looking at this photo of Sevastopol in dry dock:

and the one included in peppe's post above plus this photo of Gangut's stern:

plate seems to be the same colour as hull and letters don't appear to be black.
And , judging from this photo of a model of Petropavlovsk from CWMM in St Petersburg:

However, looking on the eagle there, the PE one in Pontos Set as that one from Zvezda as decal is a little bit larger as that. Fortunatelly I have a smaller one as spare part, I will check out which one is looking better / more correct.
Further are the lasser steps at Anchor missing in kit and at Pontos Set. Damn it .... but ok, I make by my own out of copper wire. But really, that damned stern here costs me most time on model. 3rd. time have to correct / to add something there.

If you have a question Chistian, post it here. There are members of this forum (like Kronma for example) with much better knowledge of Russian ships than mine
