Lego is the thinking persons toy....!!

My daugter( 5) has just discovered all my old lego....!!!!

anthony is diffenitly a chip off the old block.it would be nice if he started a thread of his own,i am sure he could teach us all a few tricks.

Hi Russ, all the work is Anthony's, Im only taking the photo's and down loading them for him, he will be chipping in with advice.

Started building the windlass from the drawing I produced on AutoCAD. Some old gears 25mm & 7mm diameter, 3mm diameter shafts, copper tube for bearings and some platicard for the brake housing.

Hi Tiny great to see how you developed the winch from the drawing using Auto Cad and translated this into the hard 3D model .On a number of occasions I've had to generate isometric sketches to off set the lack of perspective in picture images , CAD of course takes this process a step further .

Hi Dave,

I guess it is a case of using the tools at hand. I use the CAD software everyday at work so it is just as easy to draw it out using that. When I built the winch on Moonlight twenty years ago I used a piece of graph paper and a sharp pencil to layout the gears. I was lucky that I had some engineering drawings to work from then, which you may have seen saw in my book on the research and building of Moonlight. Now I only have a few photographs, which don't show all the detail so some interpritation will be needed.

Some more bits I made over the weekend. Two fairleads for on the bow bulwark. 25 x 5mm brass strip soldered together.
