Well thats all the main Sponsons completed, just the CIWS ones to do now, i am beginning to think that my USS Coral Sea from a USS Midway was an easier build. i sure am looking forward to building one of the Trumpy kits.
Here are a couple of pics of the Port and Stbd sides.
Any questions or remarks are as always welcome
Happy modeling

Thx JG, its the Italeri/Revell 1/720 Constellation very heavily reworked, the actual kits of USS Constellation and Kitty Hawk are nearer 90% USS America.

I'm doing the 1/700 Trumpy Nimitz - beautiful kit with a ton of detail - quite a contrast to my Revell Forrestal build. Anyone have any decent photos of the 1970s Nimitz? Can anyone point me in the right direction? Keep up the good work Kid - looking forward to more pics.

Hi everyone !.
Here's a pic of my 1/700 Nimitz from Trumpeter (2005 version) :
I still have a lot of work on it, I intend to perfectly sand the hull before adding any tiny detail. The hangar deck is near completion (excepted painting), as nothing will be seen from the outside, only near the doors, so I'll add a few aircraft inside and a few figures.
I'll add GMM photoetched parts in the days to come as some area will be difficult to work on after.
I'm back to ship modeling for good, I started with aicraft carriers, and I always resumed with them !

Thanks John.
The HP Charles de Gaulle looks very interesting, as it is in a common scale. You should look at the French navy site :

and

Hope this helps.

Thanks Tom,
I will certainly explore that site, i spent some time sailing alongside the CDG and therefore have some pics, but you can never have enough of good pics with accurate dates of when they were taken, Starfighter decals also has a 1/700 scale sheet for the CDG.

Hi John,
I also have some nice, large detailed pictures of De Gaulle, if you want them I can send them over. I took them during Trafalgar 200, when we passed her with our bathtub Godetia and afterwards when we sailed past her with the RHIB.

Hiya Neptune,
I arrived in the USA hassle free this time, Yes i would love any pics you have of the CDG, all will help thanks, i have operated with the Godetia a few times and with all the Wielingen class, they are good little ships, how is your navy getting on with their latest addition to the fleet F930 Leopold I ?, they are good looking ships and have been efficient whenever i have worked with that class.

ok, you can send your email in a PM, I'll send them over then.
The Leopold I is still mainly in port. In september she's scheduled to go to East Africa for three or four months, but I doubt it will ever come that far. She's not adapted for the NH-90 yet, so she'll have to do with the rubbish Alouettes for now. She's going back to the Netherlands next year to undergo the adaptation of the flight deck. Then, normally, the Louise Marie (second M-class) will arrive, with the adaptations already included. I doubt we'll have the new helo's by then though.
Flight deck question

Does anyone have a good method for painting in the die-downs on the flight deck? I just finished the hangar deck of my 1/700 Nimitz, and no two dots look remotely the same. I really want to fill in the flight deck for a better look, but I am afraid that the tie-downs (if done poorly) will distract from any decent work I do on this ship. Any input?

Hi.
I'm working on a 1/700 Nimitz too. I think I'll try to paint the flight deck in hull color first, then mask the tie down with liquid mask (it will require many hours) and then spray the deck color.
On my 1/350 Enterprise, I painted the deck color first, and then applied white paint on the tie down with the tip of a fine wire.Another method would be to make a hole the size of the tie down in a sheet of plastic, and then use it as a mask for spraying the paint.
In fact I'm torn between liquid mask and the last method. I'll try next week, so I'll tell you how it turned out.
Tom
PS : I thought about it twice, and the liquid mask isn't easy to make, and removing it is tricky. So the mask made with a sheet of styrene is the best solution imho.
Cheers

Hello.
I'm working on my Nimitz.
For the tie down pads I found a well working method : first I painted the deck the color I wanted with Humbrol enamel, then I brushed Future on the deck to protect it, and let it dry.
After, I applied a wash with a clear paint (Humbrol 64) using a small brush, and wiped away the excess with a soft cloth with thinner.
It worked very well. The photos will come soon.
The tie downs look great, some are darker than the others, after all on the real ship they don't all look the same.
