This year, everyone interested in auxiliary aircraft carriers will be satisfied. I plan to release HMS Empire Maccoll, Amastra, Macoma.Regards

Re: news from AJMMODELS
Wonderful news. Minor nitpick though: unlike the escort carriers the MAC ships and CAM ships were never commissioned as warships so the prefix should be MV rather than HMS. There is a very nice discussion on this on the wikipedia entry for MAC ships.

MAC-Ships such as Amastra, Macoma, Empire MacColl etc were never commissioned as Royal Navy ships, so should not be shown as "HMS" ("His Majesty's Ship"). They should be referred to as "MV Amastra" etc (standing for "Motor Vessel") - see Pieter's email of 6 June 2024.

They were not launched but were requisitioned and pressed into service with the Royal Navy, like many other civilian vessels. In my opinion they should be referred to as HMS and are described as such in many books

Re: news from AJMMODELS
Thank you - I was unaware that they "... are described as such in many books" - I'd be grateful if you could indicate a few authoritative books describing the ships as "HMS".
As they did not appear in the Navy List, were not commanded by commissioned officers of the Royal Navy and were manned (except the air party) by merchant seamen, by normal rules they were not formally part of the Royal Navy, and therefore should not have been given the prefix "HMS". Indeed, some of the embarked flights proudly marked their aircraft with "MERCHANT NAVY" instead of the usual "ROYAL NAVY".

Macoma was never commissioned into the Royal Netherlands Navy, nor into the Royal Navy for that matter. Thus, Macoma never carried the prefix HMS or even HMNS (whatever that means). Take a look here:

Re: news from AJMMODELS
If Macoma had been a commissioned warship, the correct prefix would have been Hr.Ms.S., although even Dutch writers have been known to use HNLMS as a prefix. It is also true that none of the MAC's were commissioned warships.
I find it intriguing that this topic has attracted so much attention. No one seems bothered by the spurious use of prefixes MN for French, DKM for German, or RM for Italian warships. There are even people using DKM as prefixes for warships of the Imperial Navy, which most definitely used SMS.
