Looking good

i ordered some metal cast parts but they don't seem to be arriving,search lites,polarisis.i will wait a week or so then i will build my own. the matresses that the japanese seem to hang every where had me scratching my head as to how to model them.what i did was roll tissue paper around i small piece of tube ,slip the tube out and flaten it ,then i soaked it with white paint,once dry i used an exacto knife and scribed lines verticaly along the length.they came out o.k, it is hard to see the lines in the pics but they are there i also mounted the 18, 140 mm guns on the hull.

Hi Russ Just picked up on your build , been away for a few days . Question, the mattress you refer to are these the white blast screens around parts of the tower and on the gun barrels? For this purpose I have used "Milli Putt" a white two part material that can be formed into any shape. Great to see your Nagato developing so well especially the way you have produced the anchors .

hello dave,yes they are the blast screens,i never thought of useing putty.the tissue paper method works fairly well,it can be cut to any length and bent to any angle or corner, as when the paint has dryed to is still flexable.

well the search lights arrived, not what i wanted,so i made my own.i used hearing aid batteries for the base,and aluminum tubing for the light.also brass stock and some odds and ends of photo-etch. they are much closer to the look of nagatos lights than the bought ones.

thanks dave,the completed one is a first attempt ,the remaining 5 will be more refined,i am going to scratch build the polerisis also.i will have to also build 2 sets of double width inclined ladders from the deck to the aft deck.

Nice searchlights, but you may want to reconsider those bases. Batteries will eventually leak with time, and the juice can be very corrosive.

Superb work on the lights! I kind of agree with the batteries leaking possible.....unless........with your level of skill, make them removable, pop a LED inside and make them work! Wait, took a second look, saw your finger nail, I think a LED is bigger than your whole assembly.

hi andrew i sent you a personal e mail,but i don't know if it when't.let me know thanks for the heads up on batteries DrPR and TRM i will look at a differant base system . i have had this type of battery in my junk bin for over 5 years and they seem fine but one one never knows.

a little more deck work ladders and winchs,the inclined ladders are double width so i had to make them from styrene.the chopper came in handy again for cutting the treads.the nagato 5 deck winchs that i can find on my plans,but i have no scale drawings of them,only a rough length,somewhere on this forum i found some 1/350 winchs a fellow had built so i used his as a guide, they are made from styrene,and a photo-etch ships wheel for the end of the capstin.

thanks guys,109,if i ever get as much detail as you in your hull , hell must have frozen over .Jose, good to here from you have you anything in mind for your next project.

just a couple of pics of winchs,polarisis,and cable reels.i am working on props, trying to find something to make the blades out of that is easyer to do than cutting them out of styrene.
