So I painted the flight deck, and I have had some serious problems with attaching it to the hull. Since I removed all the parts to clean them up and fix them, none of the elevator tracks are where they should be now. The port side #2 elevator guide closest to the bow sticks out from the flight deck too far. I will have to add a piece of styrene to the top of it to give it a finished look. On the other side, the forward guide for the #3 elevator sticks out too far to the stern, but there is little to do with it now - when that elevator is installed in the upright position it will hide most of it. The entire front end of the flight deck did not line up right with the hull. I had to sand extensively and it will need repainting. The forward catwalk was rebuilt from scratch - there was a gap between the flight deck and the catwalk area which had to be filled with a flat piece of styrene - it will also need repainting. Overall, the deck did not fit the hull very well at all. I guess part of rebuilding an already-built model is trying to work with what you have. After all of the repairs and touch-ups, I hope to get it to a better look than it has now. Here are pics:

Hey JG, you are doing great, looks good from the pics, your friend will certainly have a momento which he will treasure and be priceless to him, and i think it will get some Sea stories told over it .

Hi Guys, here is the latest update, USS Midway and USS Coral SEA are being joined by USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CV-42), here are pics of all three together, lots of work to be done on the FDR yet, but i got her waterlined and the general shape of flightdeck is done.

John - what are you using for water? I am ready to do the water for my base and I am prepared to use a small layer of drywall compound and shape it into waves and then paint it. Resin tends to dry flat no matter how much you play with it.

Hiya JG, I use bathroom/kitchen or even window sealant, i used waterbased one, i draw around the model base, then spread around with a biggish brush, leave for a few mins then tease and shape the waves in using brushes/spatula and a little water and more sealant as required. sealants come in clear/white or also colored, i paint with artists acrylics and use clear floor polish.

I haven't been posting pics for a while, but I'm thinking about my 1/700 Nimitz. Instead of buying other sets of anything to get enough tow tractors, I've decided to cast them in resin.
I will take one mule from a kit (the best looking one) and improve it a bit, and then cast several copies.
I also intend to make the P-25 firefighting tractor.
I'm reading a lot about resin casting, on this forum and elsewhere. It does not look too difficult.
I think I will get the resin from Micro-Mark.

If you've got advices, they are welcome.

I have not served in the Armada, but have always been a devoted fan, and know is a small but proud and efficient navy.

Here is my ongoing build of the Pr�ncipe de Asturias.
It�s a joint venture between Ayala Botto and myself that is coming along slowly but, I think, quite nicely.

Hi Luis, well what to say, A big WOW i think , it looks awesome, you have teamed up with the right guy, i always enjoy Ayalas work, if you have any info on building the Principe De Asturias it would be greatly welcome, she is one i would love to build, i have just won 4 AFV Knox class on Ebay that will become Baleares Class FFG's, i will need one more for the entire class, i have also spare OHP's to start the Santa Maria class.

No need to say I completely agree with you regarding Ayala. He is not only a great modeler, but a great guy indeed.

The story or our "Pr�ncipe" starts in the portuguese side. Ayala built from scratch the hull and flight deck, and then sent it to me. My work started there with some superficial reshaping of the bow area and detail work on catwalks. There is still a lot of work to do.

There is also an awesome build of PdA by Pedro C�mez a fellow spanish modeler.

Sorry for the delay - not much time for models, but I finally got some work done on my Wasp project. I built a base, added the hull and some plaster water. After drying, I painted the plaster black, added in blue for water, and then drybrushed white waves and foam. Since then, I decalled the flight deck as well. Here is the project as it stands:

Next up is repairing some drooping railings, removing some plaster spots from the hull, and touching up the water around the bottom of the hull. I also have some touch-up painting to do around the lowered port side elevator. One problem I ran into during decalling was a strange interaction between the gloss finish (I used Future over the entire ship) and the Solvaset. In a couple of places I got some ugly clouding which only disappeared after brushing some more Future over the foggy spots on the deck. Other than that, the Starfighter Decals set for Wasp were awesome! Mark at Starfighter was super helpful whenever I had a question. I highly recommend his products - he is a good businessman and modeler in his own right. Ok guys - always up for comments and observations, so have at it!

Great models both by Sparrow and jgrease. Very impressive models. I can t wait for angled deck Essex class carriers to be released in 1/700. I really would like to build all the variants ( CVAs, CVSs) of this incredible class.

Now something else.

Today its Kidcurrie's birthday so happy birthday John. I wish your new life in the U.S. will be better than you have ever dreamed. Remember you turned 50 today so you just have another 50 years of modelling ahead. You better hurry up and finish some carriers

Thanks for the reminder on reaching 50

well i went out and used my birthday money on Trumpys CVN-71 and Dragons BHR, Slightly disapointed with both models, Trumpys is the lack of the two FA-18 squadrons and Dragon i guess have sent most of the aircraft on a mission leaving only 12 onboard.
