Excellent build and descriptions and an excellent model.
One glaring error though. You have used post WW2 watertight doors on a WW1 ship.

Just wanted to say thanks for inspiring me to make my first venture into scratchbuilding.

I have been a member of this Forum for well over a year, and I visit the scratchbuild forum daily, but rarely if ever do I post. All of your build threads are a masterclass in scratchbuilding, and without the willingness of people like yourself, Dave W and Bill W to share their hard won knowledge with the rest of us, I wouldnt have been able to even contemplate a scratch build.

Anyway, as a result of reading and re-reading the remarkable Iron Duke build log countless times, I've finally taken the plunge and decided to have a go at building HMS Dreadnought in 1/72 scale. Due to my inexperience [and a certain lack of skill!] I've no doubt it won't be anything like as impressive as your magnificent Iron Duke. However, what I do know is that I'll enjoy the challenge, and that thanks to the tips and very clear methodology of all of your builds, even I should be able to come up with something that looks vaguely similar to the subject matter!

By the way, congratulations on the very happy ending to the Iron Duke story-what a fantastic outcome, and what a fitting new home for your outstanding model.

Finally, I sincerely hope that your health problems are sorted very soon, and that you are back showing us rank amateurs how a master builds his models.

PS: One thing I have picked up from the forum is that forward planning seems to be essential. This being the case, in about 12 months time, when the hull starts to take up more room and more time, can I blame you when the C-in-C starts to get on my case?

Hi Dave, just blame that bloke down the road in Runcorn,

I found out that the bell from HMS IRON DUKE is in Wincherster Cathedral.

I shall make an effort to go and see that!-- just down the road!

Ron Just rooting through sets of pictures and I came across these . I don't think they have been seen before and where taken at Kingsbury Water park in 05. Plenty of interest shown by the younger generation in your Iron Duke!!!

You are right Dave, I have not seen them before, it was a great day.

I had some very good news to-day from Nick, the case is completed for Iron Duke, he said I will be getting a letter from the company inviting the family to an unvailing in London.

I am looking forward to that, I will be trying my hardest to be fit and well for that day. ron h

I had some sad news to-day, Patricia Countess Jellicoe had died at the age of 94, this was Nick's mother, I phoned him with our condollences.

Nick sent me an invertation to a memorial service in London on the 17th April, at the moment I am not fit enough to attend.

RIP Patricia.

Hi Guys, The day has arrived for the unvailing of Iron Duke, the train tickets are booked and I will be picked up by Nick at Euston Station , London, and taken to Cazer House, the date is wednesday 22nd of August 2012.

Hi Guys, The day arrived and off to the station we went, on the notice board the train had been cancelled ,we were told to catch a slightly earlier train and change at Crew for the London train. We arrived about the same but a different platform, Nick was waiting at platform 1, we arrived on platform 15 about 100 yards away, it took 45 minutes before we met up, our mobile phone had one number wrong so we could not connect, but all came right in the end.
Nick got a taxi and took us to Cayzer House, were we met Domanic the managing director of the company, he took us all on a tour of the boardrooms, one of which housed Iron Duke in her case, I was presented with a book about the shipping company also a brass plaque with my name engraved on it, this is to go in side the case at a later date.
The 3 board rooms all housed models of the company ships and paintings, there was a bust of Lord Jellico also a painting of Iron Duke, the model in her case was a splended site, the best I have ever saw her looking, the CIC had a tire in her eye, they had fitted two round sections under the hull to fit the model to the base, the glass case was 96 inch x 30 inch high and 15 inch wide, the base was made from verius timbers and stood 34 inches, all together the whole thing stood 64 inches high.
After taking some photo,s and a small amount of video we were taken to lunch at a small resteraunt a few hundred yards away, Jeramey payed for everything, my ribeye steak went down well
After lunch we said our good byes and Nick took us back to Euston Station and we caught the early train home, arriving Runcorn station at 6 pm, so for me it was a long day out, 9 hours was begining to take its toll, but it was all worth it in the end.

A modeller's dream come true. Cannot think of something better for anyone of my models. Congratulations Admiral, sir!!!
